Anyone can succeed at Internet Marketing given the right desire and the right drive. Many people will quit before success actually happens. I've been reading a book by Napoleon Hill called "Think & Grow Rich" which touches on the mental barriers we face as we try to attain that ultimate goal of financial freedom.

Anyways, As I was reading it I came across a short story in the book that I feel would be a very good example for you guys to use as future reference when you feel like giving up. The reason I feel it would make a good example, is because I see a very similar story every time I log in to this Forum. People start getting close to making the breakthrough they need to start cashing in, and they simply give up and don't realize how close they actually were. Anyways, On with the quote.

(Once again, this is not my own writing, this is 100% Napoleon Hill's work)

One of the most common causes of failure is the habit of quitting when one is overtaken by temporary defeat. Every person is guilty of this mistake at one time or another.

An uncle of R.U. Darby was caught by the "gold fever" in the gold rush days, and went west to dig and grow rich. He had never heard that more gold has been mined from the brains of men than has ever been taken from the earth. He staked a claim and went to work with pick and shovel. The going was hard, but his lust for gold was definite.

After weeks of labor, he was rewarded by the discovery of the shining ore. He needed machinery to bring the ore to the surface. Quietly, he covered up the mine, retraced his footsteps to his home in Williamsburg, Maryland, and told his relatives and a few neighbors of the "Strike." They got together money for the needed machinery and had it shipped. The uncle and Darby went back to work the mine.

The first car of ore was mined and shipped to a smelter. The returns proved they had one of the richest mines in Colorado! A few more cars of that ore would clear the debts. Then would come the big killing in profits.
Down went the drills! Up went the hopes of Darby and Uncle! Then something happened! The vein of gold ore disappeared! They had come to the end of the rainbow, and the pot of gold was no longer there! They drilled on, desperately trying to pick up the vein again-All to no avail.

Finally, they decided to quit.

They sold the machinery to a junk man for a few hundred dollars, and took the train back home, Some "junk" men are dumb, but not this one! He called in a mining engineer to look at the mine and do a little calculating. The engineer advised that the project had failed because the owers were not familiar with "fault lines". His calculations showed that the vein would be found just three feet from where the Darbys had stopped drilling! That is exactly where it was found!

The "junk" man took millions of dollars in ore from the mine, because he knew enough to seek expert counsel before giving up.
The moral of the story is, Don't ever give up. You never truly know when you may only be just 3 feet away from the gold. I highly recommend this book to anyone on this forum, it's very eye opening.

Link to the amazon page for the book.

Yep the story is very motivational thanks for sharing it here , it may help some people.
Like I've said in a previous post of mine , I recommand people reading "Think and Grow Rich " . I've bought mine from a bookstore and It's well worth the price :) If you want to have success then look at the book first. It may be easier to get success after.

By the way , if you want to know what were the most famous failures of all time then go at youtube and search " Famous Failures" ( Can't post a link
:( )

Brilliant. Just brilliant, obviously i repped and thanked you for that post. Because I have the mentality mentioned in Captainwtf's post I now have 2 employees and am building relationships with the most influencial people in my industry. In fact this morning i got an email from one of those people asking for my help... this is why you dont quit.

Dont just follow your dream of making the big bucks and having financial freedom, enjoy the journey... If you aren't enjoying the journey then you need to change your chosen industry... Ask yourself, what am I PASSIONATE about? and... how can I start a business whilst utilizing this passion?

Very informative post! I could sit here, try to encourage people to take action, reference different people and their work until my fingers are numb, and it still wouldn't be as effective as when a member can actually attribute parts of their success to the material I've posted.

I won't go as far as saying that everything a person needs to succeed is in the book, because there is one thing no book can teach. Your passion. Your drive. Your motivation. Mastering yourself is just as crucial, if not more so, than mastering the various subjects in general business affairs.

The Price is very low considering the Value and Riches in that book. I'm actually reading it and it helps me be LASER Focused. I can't explain why but it really does man.

Great Book, I first read in in early 2005 and it has been one of my favorite ever since, next only to another masterpiece "The Science of Getting Rich".

BTW, how many of you guys who have read the book actually managed to find out the "secret' mentioned through-out the book as the "secret to riches"?

For those who would like to know the secret easy way, here is my gift to you. A book called "The hidden secret in think & grow rich". I have also added a PDF version of Think and grow rich with it, so enjoy all you book-lovers!

Glad to hear it! I felt the same way, and with that in mind I suggest you take a look at a book called "Cashflow Quadrant" by Robert Kiyosaki when you're done with this one. Very top notch and inspiring material in there as well.

Thanks for the share! I must say I wasn't expecting a 100+ page book, I'll definately give it a look tomorrow.

My view on what "the secret" is, is the law of attraction. there seems to be many variations on what exactly that means, but my basic take on it is the key to success is in remaining possitive. Thomas Edision serves as a great example and is even referenced in that book. One of the best definitions I've seen of it is, Your mind doesn't interpet if your thoughts are possitive or negative, it simply notices you are spending much time thinking about it, so you must want it. Its actually very interesting when you get into how your mind works and all that. I'm actually in the middle of writing a book on marketing, but covering the mind set part more than anything else. With of course, Think and Grow Rich as my motivation.

The secret is, more or less, persistence but anyone just telling someone that won't instill it in them...they have to really dive into Hill's material until the light flips on for themselves.

Good thread :) Lots of positive vibes in it.

I have "heard" tons and tons of similar books on audio from torrents on the internet.

One of THE biggest hurdle we have to overcome is the one in our mind!

Parts of this book is on youtube just search for napoleon hill on there.

Also worth checking out a book 4 hour work week, rich dad poor dad.

I think you will find a common truth from all the books you read. Find that, believe it and live it. Its all in the mind :)

Rich dad poor dad is an excellent book as well, and to anyone that is planning on reading Cashflow Quadrant I suggest reading Rich Dad Poor Dad first. Both should definately be read at some point however, they are highly motivational and inspiring pieces of literature.

Another must. I can't post URL here, so google "The Strangest Secret" by Earl Nightingale. There are some Youtube videos you can listen to this on.
In essence it boils down to this: "we become what we think about"

Thanks for the story, I have read Think and Grow Rich couple of times and every time
i read it there is something new for me.

I agree with beazt "The Science of Getting Rich" by Wallace Wattles is also a must to
read, if you want to understand "how things come in your life" -

As far as the riches is concern - It will definitely show up. (Ask - Believe - Receive)

thanks again.
