AMR a huge mistake or an effective link type?

I've found that a lot of service in the BST section are provide article directory links 100s of them in their package. I presume these are created with AMR or basically their crap quality article directories... I've done AMR blasts directly to my money site before and I've seen a drop in rankings which I had to recover back from after a month. Anyway are these backlinks safe to do directly to money site? since so many services are providing this, and the reviews are showing results...

If they're safe I plan to add them to my linking strategy, whats your opinion? or better yet if one of the service providers could clarify if they even build these article links with AMR or what?

I think that they still work if you spin the content well and use varied anchor text. In addition to blasting the article out with ARM, I also manually submit to around 10 high quality article directories. I also think that it is most effective as a part of a larger link building effort, rather than article marketing being your entire link building effort.

When you noticed the drop in rankings did you use varied anchor text on your links? Where you doing anything else at the time?

It depends on many factors:

1. The article directories you are sending the articles on.
2. PR of the sites
3. Quality of the spin file

Well i can say that any paid service is huge mistake after recent changes of Google. So i suggest you to buy tools and do yourself. Or develop tools.

I think you're contradicting yourself abit... whether I build the links myself or get someone to do them the links are still being created either way, whats the difference?

Regarding article directories I'm just going to target high PR directories I guess and maybe only post to the AA ones (maybe 100-250).

I usually use low quality spin articles on the AA ones while I use the high quality spin articles on the PR1+ directories. That would usually give me awesome results.
