Despite all the noise and almost compulsion. At a point, your site would not be recommended or even rank on mobile if it's not AMP ready.

Makes sense that AMP tend to disappear. With the advent of HTTP3 and with the current massive optimizations in both JS and CSS, AMP was just like a temporary middle-code to offer this inconveniently.
Anyway we all have to admit that WPO as a whole is the new pebble in the shoe. Some years ago I found that I could faster rank some content for certain intents (specially non evergreen content) just by poorly implementing AMP with an AMP shitty plugin.
Now a low knowledge of WPO regards is required and a shitty plugin for such could do worse than good.
But anyway AMP has been technically the past for at least the last 2 years I have not implemented it in a new site of mine. What now I'm thinking if I should wipe it from the current sites I own or if this may induce an unnecessary drop.

For me, AMP has been dead for a couple of years. I never really cared about it too much since I heavily focus on optimizing the performance and page loading speed of the mobile version of my client's websites.
But it´s good that is "officially" over.
