Amending script - where do I stand?

Hey,

I bought a ready-made script, and the license is for one domain only, which is fine.

However, there were a few amendments I wanted to make to the script, so I hired a coder to change some things (I asked the guy selling the script first, but he said he was too busy and to find another coder - so no license issues with the script being amended). I now have a couple of other things I'd like to change, including some front end stuff, which will make my copy of the script completely unique.

My question is - at what point does the script become something which I've created (albeit with the help of coders) rather than the original seller's script? Once so many amendments are made that it's practically a new script, does it become my script to do with as I please?
