I understand the general idea, my concern is more with items on sale. What is the easiest way to keep on top of item prices? It will be easy enough if you're only listing a handful but from my understanding to make any sort of real money you need to list hundreds, sometimes even thousands.

Item sales constantly come on and off. If you don't pay attention I can imagine it's very easy to lose a lot of money.

I'm presuming the majority of people will use some sort of program to automate the process.
Can anyone recommend a good site/program to check out?

I believe that most beginners, like me end up using either Skugrid or Priceyak for their price changes. I found that it was manageable with up to about 100 listings to do it manually, but over that its a headache. Downside to either of those options is the monthly fees associated with them. Those add up quick.

Checkout Keepa, its a chome extension that gives you price history for items. I think that it can also track certain items and maybe even alert you, which would be handy. Keeps is useful to see that indeed some products prices almost never change, whereas some change daily, weekly. If I had time, and was right fresh into this without any other tools, I think that I would base my initial listings off of products I think will sell, and have a very stable price history based off of what Keepa tells me about them.....keep it simple for yourself.

I'm working with a custom PHP setup to automate everything price and listing-wise its the way to go for sure.

While I learn the ropes and get things going I'm aiming for a £5-£10 profit margin per item after fee's. From your experience is there any sort of categories I should avoid?
Have you ever messed around with product images, make them more eye catching or anything along those lines to standout from the rest?

If your account has a good selling history, go for the decent profit margins. If you are dealing with a weak or non-existant sellers history, then you're going to almost certainly have to suck up lower margins, just to get the sales and feedback faster. Use finalfeecalculator dot com to calculate your costs/profits easily, and dont forget to factor in taxes into your Amazon item costs. Make a sales spreadsheet and track everything, so you know if you're doing well, or can afford a price increase/decrease to stay competitve.

I've used custom watermarks for Free Shipping in nice looking professional icons on my images, and its really hard to say if those increase the sales or not. It really is a game of listing those items, and you will find out of say a hundred, 5-10 will sell regularly and 1-3 will be very good performers. But this is all a balance of sell-through rate and your pricing to get good ranking in ebay searches.

I've found that you will be surprised at what sells, and there is no rule for what category to target. But just target everything haha. The only thing I've noticed in regards to categories, is that once you start making sales within a certain niche, you will get more different items selling in that niche/category it seems.

Its all still learning for me tho, there's lots of other members with more experience who will probably chime in here at some point.

Learn how ebay ranks listings and you wont need to list that many and then just get rid of the ones that dont sell.

I had around 15 products in my store and was making an alright amount per day.
 
Not easy finding products with a profit margin. No wonder people automate this process

It is if you know where to look. One way is to find other dropshippers that sell at a similar profit margin and copy there best sellers.

I have a few sellers bookmarked to look through later. They must make £1/$1.50 per item (some even less) but due to selling so much it must really add up.
Is there an option to see a persons best selling items or is it just a case of looking through them?


The other issue I can see is Amazon wants you to spend £20+ to get free postage.
Majority of their items sit below that. They can't be paying postage as it would leave them with no profit at all.

Forgot about Amazon prime. Ignore the last bit.

Ye use terapeak for that.

And ye you can go for them types of items but you might have to outsource order processing which isn't the easiest with this method.

This is why some chinese dudes who can live on 25 cents profit per item will be the kings of drop shipping one day.
