Hi,
I opened a new stealth Amz account in addition to my original account. I have around 30 sales and Amazon is requesting tax info. On my original account I used my EIN number, can I use that again? Or can I use my SSN? It has never been used on amazon. Or will that cause a problem? Thanks, MKMK

Not sure what I did wrong as far as my question not showing when this thread gets clicked on. But here's my question.

Amazon will ask you to shut down one account if you provide duplicate EIN number. You might be able to get away with your SSN for a while but eventually they will link the two accounts together.

Thanks for the reply. Is there any way to get another EIN as a sole proprietor? Or would I have to do it as a LLC ?

You could set up a DBA for each separate entity and get different EINs for each of them and that is 100% legal with Uncle Sam.

This is the correct answer and if you want to run this account long term, you want banking info to not link with banned account, because once your account starts selling serious money Amazon has been known to snoop around far more extensively than eBay.

My banking from my original account is in my name, this account is still active and has never been suspended or banned. This new account is in a relatives name, I have bank account in there name also. I don't want to (or them) put tax info in there name. My original account has my EIN for tax info. This new account is at 48 sales now and Amazon wants tax info. I don't want to have to pay for another EIN or whatever I would need if I don't have to. My EIN is registered to a different address than my SSN, also EIN is just my first and last name. SSN is my full name and address and everything on file for that is in at a different address /county (same state) .

It would be nice to use my SSN, it only has the first and last name of me, address etc. Is all different. There are tons of people with my name, Internet serch shows almost 75 in my state alone. Will my SSN get me flagged for sure? Eventually.

Thanks for any input. Mkmk

Then you should not provide this bank account to Amazon, as it may expose you relative to potential tax liability.

The problem with this is if you got your EIN as a sole prop, it's not that difficult to link it to your SS, and I know for a fact that Amazon digs into bank info at some point if you start getting significant sales. The best defense to this would be if you got a multi-member LLC or Corporation where you are not a signatory to the bank account opened under that LLC or Corporation's name.

It sounds like your original Amzn account isn't banned so if you get flagged for a duplicate account, Amazon may just ask you to close the other one so it wouldn't that big of a deal, since you can open other accounts via LLC or Corporation method down the line if necessary.

Just to add to the tax liability (which is correct), I had an account that used an ex-bf's social. He 1099'd me at the end of the year for the entire amount I made. I then put it on my taxes. It's a legit way to do it. An accountant did it for both of us. So, as long as you aren't stealing a relative's ssn, he needs to 1099 you at the end of the year to wipe it off of his own taxes.

If using the LLC name for the seller account, what name do you use for creating the initial buyer account in order to be able to create the seller account?
And Also::
What address do you use to register the LLC so that it can't be linked to my already existing account I opened with my SSN? (reason for this question is I don't know if Amazon can or can't verify the address registered for the LLC and match it with my other account...
And Also::
Does Amazon not require a Name (as in john smith) when registering a seller account with a LLC name? (reason for this question relates to my first question)...

Thank you in advance for responding!...

Hello,

Amazon is askingfor EIN/ tax information . (30 sales limit) What is my best strategy?

Do you have to actually have documented incorporation paperwork- does Amazon do background check with local govt?

Or, is it simply a matter of applying for a EIN number and submitting it to Amazon ?

Chances are that they do nothing in the beginning and do a background check if you start moving a lot of merchandise. Amazon will go way beyond what eBay will do if you start selling a lot there.

Additionally,
I would like to open A pro-merchant seller acct. What could I expect when completing the Amazon tax interview/questionnaire.

What are the pros/cons. How can I be approved. Thanx

Not much in the beginning. As long as you give numbers that IRS confirms is true, you'll be okay initially. Your problems will come if you try to get approved in restricted categories where the real money is (cosmetics, designer handbags and sun glasses, jewelry, consumer electronics, etc.) or if you ramp up sales quickly. Other than that, unless they link you to a banned account they'll leave you alone until they do risk assessment once you start ramping up sales.

I know for a fact that they do a much more intense background check on you if you hit six figures monthly. Not just for risk assessment purposes, but if you're doing too well on Amazon, they will see if there's something you're doing that Amazon can copy.

My Achilles' heel has been within the first 30 days..I hit the 20-30 sales mark. Amazon continues to ask for EIN number. Amazon will place a hold of my account.

To ridicule this – I plan to spread my sales out . For example- making less sales per month.
