I don't understand the fuss here.

Yes ppl lost a lot of money and will continue to do so but it's still Amazon.

If you were making 5000 a month, you will now make 2500. Consistently.

It's still not that bad.

Would you continue to build amazon sites after this news?

You fail to consider the tanking of a websites value due to the new earning changes and also the quality of a person's life. They may have lived a life fit for $5,000+ per month earnings so cutting it in half affects them baaad.
 
Yeah, imagine working for a company for a few years, making $5k per month, hoping for a promotion, and one day your boss comes and tell you your salary is going to be only $2k starting next week, but you still have to do the same work...

No biggie, right!?

Just shoot for that promotion that would bring you salary to 4k instead of 15k you were hoping for. xD

EDIT: On the other hand, there are people making 1-2k per month, which was enough to make ends meet, and they were living out of that income, but now they are making 300-600$ and can't pay a fcking rent. Still no biggy right, it's easy... just make more websites, rank them, bring in 3X the traffic and you are back on track... It's easy, dunno what's all that fuss about!

Losing 50% of revenue overnight due to a commission cut is no small deal.
If a site making 5000/mo was valued at 150k, now it's valued at 75k so there's that.

But yeah, instead of cursing Amazon over this (they won't care), people should focus on how to recover from this and it's yet another reminder that one shouldn't put all this eggs in one basket.
 
Even 5% loss in any business (not even in affiliate marketing, or Amazon, or whatever) is a massive thing. You might be making $100, now you're making $50. That's a lot. I consider this thread a troll move.

Good luck. Try going for direct sales if possible, and find higher paying offers. Right now you're in a better position as tonnes of affiliates are trashing Amazon as their affiliate service. You can talk to the businesses selling and propose your own affiliate %
 
All you morons need to stop acting like you are an employee of Amazon. When you are an affiliate, you get compensated for sending traffic and that's it.

CPA offers end all the time. Affiliate offers from big companies either change terms or end as well. This is the nature of affiliate marketing. You either adapt to the changes or go do something else. Don't sit here and whine like an idiot.

I hope Amazon gets rid of their affiliate program completely. I can't tell you how many bullshit articles I find in my news feed that's just total fiction to promote products on Amazon.

I've been in this game for 10 years. I've lost it all and gained it all back. You Amazon affiliates hit a bump in the road and you decide to create online petitions and shit? LoL. GTFO here with that weak garbage.

Do you know what is 50%? Buddy, it's a lot of money, maybe not for that amount you have, but imagine the guy who was making half a million per month, now 250k... It's a big fucking difference.

OP what's your goal in business? To profit or lose money? Of course we all want to make even more money. I have never seen a business that wants to make less money. Jeff himself is already a billionaire yet he's way too greedy and slashed your commissions by 50%. Too bad. Think man.

I removed Amazon affiliate native ads completely from my websites and moved to an affiliate network that cares about me making money (40% commission rate) and I'm happy. Doing optimization of ads placement to help increase conversion atm. Will see how that plays out. But I'm not going back to that shitty Amazon. Never!

i already invest before the news, so yeah still will.
but this will hit bad with old player. imagine having site provide you 1k/month for years, and you have make plans where the money will be invested, used etc. than suddenly out of nowhere, you income cut to $500/month

That right there is the mindset which is allowing Big tech to do shit they do.

Millions of people are affected by this! If it's some random factory with 50k employees, that decided to cut their salaries by 60+% with 1 weeks notice, we would have riots. But bald dude worth 130+ billions cutting commissions to millions of people most of whom were holding websites as assets and now lost millions of dollars is really not a big deal.

How many agencies, 3rd world country VAs that were writing articles and doing other shit just lost their jobs?

How many people were living off of Amazon affiliate websites, just lost most of their income?

I was started a site 1 month ago, now abandoned.
From 6% to 1% , yes.

You read that correctly, Mr. Softy. I hope Amazon gets rid of their affiliate program completely so I can stop seeing bullshit articles from branded sites in my Apple News feed.

Only reason why amazon affiliates are whining is because they're making easy money off of that cookie drop. You know, when Larry clicks on that link for a Samsung TV and then comes back a few hours later to buy socks and cayenne pepper. Easy cookie money.
