Depends on the niche. Adding the year can really add up in longtail volume for some niches. If it's a newer site, I'd start using it now. I started using 2016 a while ago.
This really depends on the scope and depth of your site.
Some people go for specific events or seasonal stuff. Others stick with evergreen.
You can do either, ultimately it's your choice.
Ive done it on one of my sites, a kitchen appliance review site. Obviously all the articles were written with this in mind. Making sure the link didn't contain the year was important also
I use it very often for one of my site in very competitive niche...
New site in hard niche = all money earned just because of adding 2015 ( last year), it ranked just for keywords with 2015 at the end. So in my case adding the year makes a very big difference
2016 worth plugging in frequently or just have it on the site spread through some posts and articles? I have a few new sites/blogs I just setup and am trying to rank
