I've had success previously with just ebooks in a particular 1 niche 5 years ago and I intend to stick with that niche. I was pretty early to catch on to this niche 4 years ago and honestly pretty disappointed I didn't capitalize on it when it was really fresh. However, you can probably call it evergreen now, despite all the other e-books that are flooding in. Another area I'm in is DIY books.
If you wanna follow this journey you can probably gain a few ideas, but here's what you'll wanna work on:

If you wanna follow this journey you can probably gain a few ideas, but here's what you'll wanna work on:
- Familiarity with photoshop.
- Read books in the niche you're in (soak it in).
- Time Management - "just ship it" eventually you'll get to a point once you spend too much time on a cover or a book you'll feel like it wasn't efficient.
- Stoicism - Think and work objectively, perfection isn't necessary. Especially in the beginning.
- Patience

Background:
In 2015, I banked. A single book that took me a few days to write netted me $600+ a month for a year and it trickled down to ~$400 until it was around ~$50 4 years later. It got banned (don't use a logo that doesn't belong to you).
I tried several different niches from self-help, to DIY, to children's books. Children's books are where it's at. My writing isn't that great, but it's enough for children's books.
Niche Research, Niche Research, Niche Research:
People praise bookbolt and I used it too for a short bit and it does provide some good insight on competition.
I took a different approach, especially those 5 years ago. On facebook you'll find some kindle book groups. I joined like 10 of them. In fact. Initially, it was for reviews, but I don't believe in review exchanges so much (whitehat). I literally found all my niches mostly from seeing what all the members of the group were posting. Keep in mind: Most work people post or put out are their novels and what not. I did think about doing erotica, I'm pretty sure that one is evergreen. Maybe one day.
I will recommend bookbolt if you decide not to go scan through Facebook groups.
Anyways, just do some A-B testing and give all the niches you believe in a chance. You never know.
PRESENT DAY:
Recently, I published another children's book and it was only 8 pages. Yes, 8 pages. (Start small, right?) I sell pretty much 1 copy of it every other day. However, I did my due diligence to research what was popular in relation to my competition and I did a good amount of editing (too much).
Writing can be a long process. Covers are simpler, at least.
Low Content/No Content: AKA journals or coloring books
I started publishing paperback and each of them only takes me ~30 minutes each. In the beginning you won't understand how to ease the process, but it didn't take much time for me to learn.
I sell these at $4.99 for a 120 pg book of just lined pages. The cover is absolutely important though.
No one wants to open a notebook everday with an ugly cover on it.

I already publish everyday. Except when I start to feel burned out and my work starts looking like trash. In which case, I just publish 2+ books the following day.
I'm at $30/month so far. Half of my sales are from the book I made 5 yrs ago. Other half is my children's book.
Since 2 weeks ago, I currently have 14 low/no content books and 1 children's ebook.
No sales yet, but apparently it takes about 1 week for paperbacks to get into the keyword system and be found.
