Amazon has turned into a flea market...

Is it just me or has Amazon turned into a jumbled flea market of junk and Amazon-made products? I'm speaking from a buyer's standpoint. I have Amazon Prime and have used Amazon for MANY MANY years.

What I've noticed is they are getting more and more in the habit of pushing JUNK products on customers under the guise of "daily deals" or "suggested products" that you'd never think twice about buying otherwise. And Prime Day? That was an absolute joke, cheap junky products on "sale" all day long with a few Amazon-made products mixed in. Alexa, Fire tablets, Amazon Essentials (their own generic brand of crap)...

That's what Amazon is about now... pushing high mark-up junk along side their own creations. I personally feel that this is a dangerous direction for them to be going. What are your thoughts?

I love that pretty much anything I want I can just go on amazon, search, order, have it to my door in 2 days with free shipping. That's ace in my book.
 
They want to make money. They are probably making more this way.

3 committees in congress are about to investigate Bezos and Amazon for monopolies, this will force a sudden departure for Amazon's lofty stock prices. This will cause Amazon to reevaluate their policies and marketing - which might force this important issue to the light (if it's unprofitable for them of course)...
 
i dunno dude but the only online shopping platform I trust is amazon. It has never ever failed me, and I am a frequent buyer ( atleast 15+ orders a month). This being said, always rate what you buy. That way the community stays updated about your experience. Amazon takes their reviews very seriously to say the least...

With that, common sense is also the key. If something smells like shit, it probably is shit.

ohh btw.. amazon basics IS overpriced shit. I would rather buy some generic data cables for $3 than buying the same thing with amazon logo for $10

I'm surprised amazon is so popular on bhw, when u can find cheaper dealso for most items on other sites.

I cancelled my prime cuz I just don't need anything ever month?

The reason Amazon used to be amazing was they offered free shipping back when nobody else was, and they almost always had the lowest price... and they made finding what I wanted easy. Now honestly none of those are true. You can find most things cheaper online elsewhere, everybody offers free shipping now, and now you can even get free two-day shipping other places.

Factor in the $99 that Amazon charges for Prime's two-day shipping and it looks even uglier. Then factor in the fact that Amazon Prime's video streaming is utterly shit (plus the joke that Prime Day was) and I'm paying $99 for virtually no reason.

actually in my country, amazon is almost always the cheapest (I always compare the prices by entering the model number/sku in google search and watching the ads that come up on top). It depends on market to market i guess.

I had to go look into the whole congressional investigation into a monopoly and I'm terribly surprised to confirm you are correct.
 
Amazon is into social networks nowadays.

They launched Spark - social network for shoppers. While Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and alike try to integrate shopping into social network, Amazon shamelessly integrated social network into shopping.
The thing with social networks - bad reviews dont stick because they are rarely liked by the crowd, so you should expect more crap on your feed with excellent reviews attached. :)
 
On prime day Martin Lawrence who is a money saving expert in the uk pointing out that some products were being offered at 30% off but still could be found cheaper elsewhere so I think that was just a typical marketing ploy?

Personally I never found a need for amazon anyway, I buy general products from eBay sellers and other goods from online stores specialising in their own area (like scan / ebuyer / maplin for tech stuff for example).

Cancelled my Prime, mainly because the delivery was always fucking crap, no point paying extra for next day delivery if they just make bullshit excuses.
Also all the drop-shippers, ebay arbitrage sellers and Chinese companies (all from BHW I bet) offering low prices but fucking never deliver are killing Amazon at the moment.
Quality and price used to be the main reasons for using Amazon but no longer the case.
Have to say though their customer care is still excellent.

Pretty much this.

Once i almost bought something on Amazon, but soon after i found it somewhere else cheaper, so i cancelled the order. Amazon has the option to cancel, if an item is found somewhere else cheaper. This is a cool feature from a buyer's standpoint.

Amazon Prime - where it's available - can still be very attractive, but where it's not available, eBay is better in almost every aspect. Just to name one: you can't use PayPal on Amazon.

Also there are heaps of fakes on Amazon, pretty obvious things in plain sight and Amazon doesn't seem to care about it at all.

You are right on the money. I've had to call Amazon three times in the past year because of late prime orders. Then this week I ordered a kitchen item, only to receive a Chinese knock off that was so easily spotted it was laughable. Worst part was it was sold to me with Prime, I used to trust things that sold with Prime shipping. No two ways, Amazon has gone down hill.

That being said though I've never had any problems with amazon. Here (I'm in the EU) amazon is on-par or cheaper than basically anyone else and they deliver on time without any problems. I also don't think their video streaming is that bad - at least it has some series that I can't find on Netflix.

Man, I absolutely love my amazon prime. Alot of times, I'll order stuff at like 4am or 5am and still get them the same day. I order stuff Amazon like EVERY day practically.

Yeah, if those fuckers delivered same/next day, I would love it too but the delivery guys lie and make me lose my cool. Sometimes it takes 3-7 days for them to deliver a next day item.
Somebody is always present here to take a delivery so it is frustrating.
