[Amazon] Getting Serious About IM

Update:

Gotta admit, not my most productive day. There's something to be said for working on a schedule to keep productivity up. 12 Amazon clicks, no sales.

Added about 250 words to the article I wrote yesterday just fleshing it out some. I really don't like leaving content up at 500 words, feels like the bare minimum and it won't rank as well.

Starting to test "tactical pins" on Pinterest. What the hell is that? Basically super targeted pictures to try to have them go viral (Tall, warm colors, watermarked) it's by no means an exact science, but large pins tend to perform better. Despite doing a big slow unfollowing phase it is still growing steadily. Would really like to see it generate more traffic -> amazon clicks -> sales.

Traffic to the CB site is about half of what it was yesterday, not sure why that is. I really need more outreach besides comments to amp up its performance.

Great thread op, I am soon to start my amazon affiliation site and I literally have no idea how I'm going to do it, but I know this thread will help me out so I'm checking in here.

Quick update:

I checked my Reddit account that I promoted site 1 with and people actually responded really positively. It's a niche I'm passionate about so that was refreshing. It inspired me to write an about page on it to kind of personalize it further.

No sales to report, still maintaining all of my social media.

Good luck with reddit, I am getting good results so far. I tried a reddit post this week in a subreddit that had 118k+ subscribers. My first post lasted only 30 seconds on the front page before getting removed. They don't want anyone selling anything.

My second attempt used a question in that subreddit and lasted about 40 minutes on front page with some really good responses. It eventually got take down as even a single link to an amazon product spooks them.

I made an Amazon sale yesterday - on a fucking cutting board.

I have never felt so frustrated in every aspect of my life. I won't turn this into a diary post as that was never the goal of the thread. Nothing is working for me in or outside of IM. It feels like I am spinning my fucking wheels and wasting my time.

I'm not giving up. Goddamn.

Update for the past few days:

Site 1 made a sale with a $100 product.

Clickbank site has been disappointing with no sales lately despite commenting and what not.

I think manually unfollowing/following and managing social media for 3+ accounts burned me out badly. One reason Pinterest is so easy for me to keep trying is despite it not earning me anything at the moment, it is almost entirely on autopilot. Another part of my problem lately has been my mood. I just can't write good content for my sites if I feel like shit.

In general all of my sites are inching forwards in the SERPs. Not well enough to really start earning, but they are getting there.

This is all about finding what works for me and what doesn't. I know it sounds really impulsive, but I'm considering changing my approach altogether from making sites to providing services or something. A big part of what makes motivation for this so difficult is the large amount of time/money put into a site that may or may not amount to anything in the future. Websites just take a LONG time with a white hat approach. Making even more sites that will each take a long time to start generating revenue would just completely demotivate me. Sticking with what I have now for a while.

Congrats on your sale. Keep with it, I have yet to make a sale yet. Have you tried the forum method that Meathead mentioned in his most recent amazon thread?

Good luck OP! Though IT and internet marketing is different field but I think both of these fields are great to earn more money. Mate, Please clear about these issue that why are you coming IM profession?
Mate, I think Affiliate program will be perfect way for you. If you are agreed to invest few $ that would be pretty good for more earning. I'm also an affiliate that's why telling so.

Yep, it brought me some traffic but nothing substantial. Could be an issue with the niche being small.

I've made 4 sales through my Amazon sites since my last update, roughly $10. My favorite part of Amazon is how people can buy totally unrelated items and it still gives a commission.

I'm getting my motivation back and working on my sites more regularly now. I decided to only post when I make sales so you don't see a ton of the same type of "grind" posts and it gives me something to share with you guys.

Made 4 sales yesterday on small items = $4. Since my last update I also automated my Twitter presence a lot with IFTTT. I still need to post more on there, but it is far better than nothing.

I spent most of today working on a new project. I'll include some details about it when it bears fruit.

I love when there's a little bit of consistency to them. I spent today doing my normal rounds on social media, blog commenting, and made two videos for my CB site.

On tomorrow's to-do list: I've been planning to write a large article (2 -3k words) for my first site that isn't product related. It will probably rank well and since it's related to the site's niche will probably help out sales. It's much easier to write and research when you care about the niche!

I stuck to my rule of only posting when I made a sale (.85, lol) which took WAY longer than I thought it would. I have consolidated my focus down to my first site for the foreseeable future and have been churning out content and building links for the past two weeks.

While it is still too soon to really see the effects, the traffic has almost been linearly going up. Starting around 10 visitors a day it has risen by 1 or 2 everyday with a dip here and there.

I also revamped almost every page (around 30 as of now) on the site, from adding content to targeting different keywords. You can tell a lot of the pages were rushed and not the quality they needed to be. A lot of the them looked good in the editor, but when actually published were terrible for readers. Average time spent on the site is going up.

One of my favorite smaller changes was updating my theme’s php and adding an update date next to the post creation date for each article, should be very beneficial both for search engines and users.

I’m very happy with my link-building process. I’ve been using the following resource for ideas:

It’s amazing how reaching out to other site owners in my niche can get me a quality link in a matter of days. Kind of funny how this never occurred to me MUCH sooner. Response rate can be low, but for the chance to get a great link I don't mind.

Building up a Twitter presence as well that just hit 1k followers. Not getting a ton of traffic from it yet, but they stay on the site longer than a lot of other sources so it is definitely worth continuing. My unrelated Pinterest also hit 2k followers recently.

I’ve also purchased two expired domains for PBN purposes and established one of them already. I am not focusing much on them, but letting them age in case I want to use them in a few months.

I think by the end of June my traffic will at least have doubled if not tripled.

Deciding to focus on one site was a great decision. Traffic is consistently raising and sales have as well. Notice how the gap between this post and my last is much smaller than before

My main efforts have been link building as mentioned above. Anything I can do to get a quality backlink, I do. I've been using old web 2.0s I established before the site's domain change and changing them to this one. Sending some comment backlinks to them as well to help them show up.

I've also been going through old content and optimizing it. Not just for SEO purposes (although that will help a LOT), but to improve the user experience. Can't expect a page to convert well if it is poorly constructed.

Made a small $1 on some products bought unrelated to my niche - that's the beauty of Amazon, just get people there and you're bound to make SOME money.

Heard back from a site owner that I requested a guest post from and things look good. Might be writing an article soon for a cool site that will give me great referral traffic + link.

Did some more email outreach today and have a job interview tomorrow morning. Progress 'erryday.
