Amazon Cutting Payouts Again

Spent the last year working on a website in one of these categories and have invested a ton in links and content. Feel like I've been punched in the gut.

Already have other affiliate programs in place, but they don't have all the products, and don't convert as well. Oh well... back to work, I suppose.

Changes effective May 1.

We have changed the rates for Amazon Fashion Women's, Men's & Kids Private Label, Apparel, Amazon Cloud Cam Devices, Amazon Element Smart TV (with Fire TV), Amazon Fire TV Devices, Amazon Echo Devices, Ring Devices, Watches, Jewelry, Luggage, Shoes, and Handbags & Accessories to 4.00%.

The old commission rate was 7%, so cut nearly in half.

I was doing MBA for some time and within two years they decreased the royalties like 4 or 5 times.

They are also cutting down on stock they buy from wholesalers and making g them become marketplace sellers
 
I dont understand why people even bother promoting amazon affiliate program with such low payout. With all the cost of seo and marketing, you might as well open a small shop to sell offline.
 
And there was another update in March applied to Amazon UK (the indirect sales).. and this will be applied sooner or later on Amazon US, this update specifically will screw up Q4 revenue for all Amazon affiliates.
 
Amazon is a rip off! I stopped promoting them a long time ago. Im sure there are a lot of people who still promote them but why promote something where you make pennies if I'm going to put in the effort I want to make sure I am making a decent return.
 
Well, nothing like a kick in the nuts from Amazon to motivate me to do some actual work.

E-mailed several of the manufacturers of the products I recommend directly and locked in 10% commissions from the two biggest players in the space whose products I recommend. Still waiting to hear back from two more. That only took 2 hours.

These are huge brands, so hopefully there won't be a fall-off in conversions. I'll miss the random items that I get for at Amazon, but 10% payout vs 4% payout will massively overtake that.

Anyway, if you are impacted by this, I definitely recommend reaching out to manufacturers directly. Even if they list some really low payout as their "base" commission, they will very likely increase it if you just ask (and have a solid website or traffic source).
 
Amazon Fashion Women's, Men's & Kids Private Label, - 10.00% dropping down to 4% really is a pisstake.
 
Bad news they are acting like greedy rich people besides changing their policies every month I think it's time to move on...

I do have a question if you don't mind, In most cases, do the (big players) have the same affiliate system like Amazon, I mean let's say the user didn't buy the product directly from your link and he just bought another product from the site would you still get the commission? Because, I've been an Affiliate for Amazon for almost two years and currently all my sites are making 4 figures/month and from what I'm seeing, almost 40% of my revenue is from relative products on Amazon not the product I've advertised in my sites.
 
amazon is going to drop all commission eventually according to there staff was told that from staff on the telephone.

there trying to keep it at 4% but might just end.

phone them if you want proof, there coming out from the affiliate world eventually, greed if you ask me.

Every affiliate program that I am part of gives credit for all sales the customer makes within the cookie window. So if they click on the link to "blue widgets" and end up buying the red widgets instead, I would still get credit for that. Since you are linking directly to the manufacturer though the number of "other" products that a user is likely to buy is way, way lower.

On the upside, almost every program other than Amazon has a way better cookie duration. The ones I'm now moving over to all have between 14 day and 30 day cookies. Still, no random sales will come in, so that's less valuable. A 30-day cookie on Amazon would be sweet.

good for u becouse eventually there be no program to join.

the 4% might even get scrapped
 
It's simply unbelievable to see that thing again. How much do they really will cut ? I think it will be 4% and 1-2% for non-related random things in the end and that's it. All you have now is bonuses. However Amazon conversion rate is really overperforming everyone else it seems. So for example you have 1% conversion rate out of 100 visits on other site and like 8-12% commission, with amazon that will be at least same money cause conversion will be no less than 3% I assume and sometime way more!
 
This is all they fucking do anymore. Poor saps are still stuck using their seller accounts too because they’re the most trusted among online shoppers.
