Amazon and ebay affiliate programs?

Hi, i am pretty new to affiliate marketing. I am just curious to know how the amazon and ebay affiliate system works. Take amazon for example, do you have to pick individual products to be an affiliate for or do you just put up a main amazon affiliate link that means when someone goes through it anything they buy from amazon will be recognized as a purchase on your affiliate program?

Or are there different approaches? Thanks.

With basically any affiliate program you will have a code that if clicked on with give you credit for anything purchashed from that vender. So if you have a link from amazon for a pencil and someone clicks it but buys a big screen TV you will get the % of what ever was purchashed on amazon no mater what it is.

Oh right i see, but i don't know is the amazon affiliate commission decent?

Yea you can earn a decent income through amazon.Recently people are designing Amazon stores based on a particular niche and selling the sites along with SEO on 1st page of Google.Better have a try on it.
 
The commissions on Amazon are pretty low (usually about 5-10%), but you have to keep in mind that Amazon has a strong reputation and they sell quality products, so despite the fact that the commission rates are low, the conversions are pretty high.

Not to mention additional product sales in case the customer decides to buy something more (within the 24 hour cookie period)

Amazon is great for the holiday season (although I've yet to experience it myself) so better start creating those amazon niche sites now in time for christmas buying spree! ;)

The eBay affiliate program is pretty similar. Drive traffic, have that traffic convert to sales, get a commission.

They do this weird click averaging system though instead of a straight commission though. It's annoying, but it works out ove the course of the month to about 6%. So pretty similar to amazon levels.
