Hi - I heard about that Amazon influencer program too (seems logical), but having a hard time finding info on how many followers are require for approval from Amazon? Let me know if you know. thanks chef

Yes you can do Amazon affiliate with IG. But keep in mind that if you insert a direct URL in your BIO it can get your account in trouble with Amazon Because usually many ppl spam affiliate links from Social Media so you put yourself in this Area of account shutdown. At the same time, it does not mean that everyone who put direct URL to their Amazon aff link will get banned however it's better to not do. It's not take a lot of time to build a landing page

And you could just add a link from the description in each post yes? Example: Someone is demonstrating on camera how to use a product, and there's a "buy now" link in the description to that product (or even an Amazon store). Will that get the IG account in trouble, or no big deal?

You will be fine but if you add to more than 1-3 accounts, I would cloak it . Everyone says 1 but if the accounts are not spam , you should be fine since you won't be reported. I usually link to a different part of the site so it's not exactly the same

You can add it to the bio, but if you spam it on multiple accounts, the account might get flag and the link removed.
I seem to remember there being some chaos around the fact, that accounts were disabled because of direct affiliate links at some point though.
