Amazon Affiliate: Twitter Preview Doesn't Include Aff Tags. Way Around This?

If you make a tweet on Twitter and it includes a link to Amazon (including your aff tag), it will also give users the option to see a preview of the product, with a few Amazon customer reviews.

The problem here is that, whilst your hyperlink includes your aff tag, the link when you click the 'Learn more or buy' Amazon button doesn't.

I'm wondering if there's anyway around this?

Check again, I just tried it out on my account and it still had my aff tag within the url just as if they clicked the link instead of "learn more or buy"

I checked again, it definitely does not have my aff link in the 'learn more or buy' link.

It does have it in the bit.ly link though, so I'm wondering if there's perhaps a problem with the bit.ly shortener?

link, it includes an Amazon Aff Tag.

But if you click on 'Learn more or buy' in the Twitter automatic preview, there is NO Amazon Affiliate Tag included in the URL.

Which basically means if your followers click that, instead of your text link, you won't get the commission.

Now the challenge is to try and find a way around it.

I do use Rss with a script i got for 5dls... i do what it says basically have it installed and use 2 twitter accounts, it made me 4 sales this week..well it gave me around 5dls back lol but hey... better then nothing!

Would also love to hear a solution to this. For some reason, my twitter account is only posting the "Learn more or buy" window half the time.

A possible solution has come to mind - use a time delay URL forwarder.

So the short link goes to another URL (so you can track the clicks) and then forwards to Amazon.

Twitter probably won't know the end landing page and therefore won't show the preview.

Thoughts?

if you look at one of my accounts http://twitter.com/kindlefire15 any of the posts there show my tag within the url after clicking the more info button. So im not sure why yours would be any different...

There's no Aff link there.

Amazon Affiliate Tags have -21 for the UK and -20 for USA.

Not here it doesn't.

There's no Amazon Aff Tag in that link.

I think the only way around it is blanking the referrer via JS or a meta refresh

ok this is weird, I tried again and no link. I went to my main twitter account then loggin into AA and posted a tweet. Clicked on the more info and now there is a tag there. Prior I was using the aol browser at work. Switched to ie clicked the link and now my tag is in there. Go to @tlommy and check out the first post. Im not real smart when it comes to web design but maybe it is suppose to attach or redirect with your tag afterwards but when we use an rss to post with a shortener (im using ******) (@kindlefire15) it doesnt appear.

So did you manually embed this html for the mtv site or is it a script that you can alter to leave the read more off or change it to a link on your site that redirects with your tag?

Yeah I'm using bit.ly and Tweet Adder to do the auto posting.

I used that simply as an example. It's not my account.

tlommy is probably right, it's the URL shortener which is losing the Tag.

I stay away from bitl.y and now twitterfeed are linked to bitly so maybe they figured a way to jack some commissions.

I would love to have my own twitter feed script and my own shortener to cut this crap out. Let me know if there is such an animal.

By the way how the hell do you embed html in a tweet like that?

It's easy to see tags in Amazon links, as I put above. All UK tags end in -21 all the USA tags end in -20.

There's ways to create your own URL shorteners on your own site and Wordpress plugins too, but I've not looked into them much... yet.
