I am sorry for this possibly quite stupid question but I would like to clarify it. If I signed up for the UK Affiliate program and a visitor from the US clicks on the link i have absolutly no benefit, right? He won't buy the product in the UK if he is from the US. How do you solve that issue? Is there some kind of "global" affiliate program that redirects the user to the store in his region?

If you are using WordPress there are several Amazon Affiliate plugins that will direct people to the correct amazon store with your aff id.
Try this one:

I have not used it, so check it first, as some of the free plugins direct visitors to the authors link every x no of clicks
