    Stop Procrastinating! Start Working!

I've wasted to much time already. I'm now taking action.

Goal: First commission before Christmas. I think it's a very reasonable goal and I can't see why I would fail. This way, I won't disappoint myself and if I get a commission before my deadline, it will just give me more motivation.

How: You've probably guessed by the title. I'll achieve my goal using the Amazon Affiliate Program. I'm a complete Newbie and I'll need to learn all I need to know during the journey.

Why a journey: I'm starting a journey for the same reason as other members here, it helps keeping track of things and it motivates us. We're also getting some tips along the way which is awesome and I'm thankful if I get any.

Niche: I've already selected my niche. It's something I'm somewhat interested in, and I believe I could write a bunch of articles about it.

Keywords: Found a few keywords, however they have very low search per month and it makes me wonder if I've chosen the wrong niche. Most of the keywords have around 100 monthly search.. I'll give it a try.

Content: I have 1 article written so far. I plan on having around 10 when I launch the website and I'll keep adding 2-3 per week. Word count isn't something I'm worried about. I'll just write what needs to be written. It just needs to be useful for the readers.

Domain: The domain isn't EMD. It's somewhat brandable. However, it's not aged and have no backlinks. I'm starting fresh.

Website: It's about 50% done. I'm not using WordPress. I've built the website myself as I am a web programmer. I don't like WordPress anyway. It feels slow and bloated. The page load speed is important to me and building a custom website will sure help. I'll also be able to change anything I want without much effort as I've built it and have access to the source code.

Backlinks: I have no clue how I'll do that yet. However, I know I won't be buying packages. Every backlinks will be created manually. I don't care if it takes months and months to start ranking. I want to be as clean as possible. I don't want to risk messing with the Big Brother (G00GL3).

As you've read, it will be a long process as I'm not trying to rank and bank ASAP. If this takes off at some point, I'll know that it will be mostly from natural ranking and that it won't magically disappear from google because of some shady things I would've done. My goal is reasonable and I'm very motivated to achieve it.

I'll update weekly. I'm sorry I won't be able to update daily. I have a 9-5 job and a girlfriend haha. I won't achieve enough daily to update my journey. So a weekly update is more suited for me. If you have questions or tips, don't hesitate to write in this thread.

    Let's begin.

Well laid out plan off attack.
If your articles are of this quality too, you'll get readers interest.

For your keyword research, lower search terms can be profitable, if they are good buyer intent KWs.
Use 2 or 3 tools to dig deeper for the KW research, KWfinder and semrush as well as LTP as an idea.
Look at the top competing sites, what is there PA,DA etc.

You'll be well sorted before Xmas.

Hey MisterF, thanks for the recommendations! I appreciate it.
I believe my KWs are good buyer intent. I've also read about of the tools you've mentioned, however I believe they're not free to use. I'm on a tight budget right now, and it will need to wait. I've added them to my to-buy list. Thanks!

    Question: Shared Hosting vs VPS/Dedicated.
I've setup a dedicated server before, I know it's way more trouble than a shared hosting, however when you're on a shared hosting, you don't know what the hell other customers are doing with their site. I'm worried that it might affect my site, either by speed because they're running so many things and they're taking all the juice or because they spam the shit out of their website and it affects my ranking because we're on the same IP? Am I worrying to much? Also, I know VPS is on a shared server too, but at least you have dedicated resources.

My next step isn't hosting. I'm still building my site, but I'll get there soon and need advice.

Any thought? Am I just paranoid?

That's very impressive. Could it be because you have another keyword on your site that brings the traffic and while browsing your site they land on your 480 search/month post? Just asking.
Anyway, thanks for replying, that's very motivating :) Keep it up!

from my experience i can tell you that searches/month is not the success key , if i have low competition keyword with low search volume but it have buyer intent even if its searches 100/month i go with it

Good luck bro, ill be subscribing :) A question though, why are you against buying packages for link building? It would help you alot, you might get demotivated after months when you are getting only a few sales every month and its not even enough to keep up the costs of the dedicated server?

I guess I have trust issues? I honestly haven't looked at the packages for link building, maybe I'm wrong and it's totally worth it. However, I just feel like buying a package might help for a quick boost, but in the long run it might hurt my site because of the quality of the links? I just want every link to be as natural as possible and I feel like I can't trust anyone else other than me to build links. I've read some horror stories that after 6 months their site were no where to be found in google. Was it really because of the packages? I don't know.. but I don't want to give the faith of my site in the hands of an other.

I might get demotivated, yes. I might be completely wrong, probably. I guess we just have to wait and see :) Cheers

It's nice to see such journeys because I'm also a newbie with Amazon Associates and it's interesting to read.

The first suggestion I will give you is to read all the journey threads related to amazon. There are some incredibly detailed accounts of people going about it and you will learn a lot from there.

Keywords: This is very very important. This is some thing that even experienced marketers have difficulty dealing with. Pick a wrong set of keywords and you are doomed to fail from the start. If you pick a keyword that is even moderately competitive, some one starting out will not have the resources and means to rank them and give up. And if you pick keywords with low volume, you would rank them but get very low traffic. Usually, the suggestion is to pick keywords which are atleast 480 monthly searches and many people suggest to go for 1k monthly searches. Also, look in to buying a few keywords from BHW services.
