Hey guys! My name is Nick, and I've been a lurker/member here at BHW for a short period of time. Just a little information about myself, I'm not a noob at IM. I've made a little money online, but nothing on the level I want it to be at. This journey will follow my steps into creating a gaming niche website that creates reviews for various gaming products. These reviews will consist of affiliate links to Amazon. Simple enough, right? This isn't the first time I've created a website. About a year ago, I created a MNS that saw little success. Mainly because I had no passion for my niche. So this time, I picked the gaming niche, as I enjoy writing about various gaming topics.

I am currently about 4 days into website's launch. I have 4 articles posted already (all of which I wrote myself), and have many more planned to be uploaded within the week. I have also begun to make quality comments on keyword targeted blogs linking back to my website. This will be how I plan to create my initial flow of traffic, that along with social media.

I am still sort of in a "testing stage" as I want to prove to myself this method can work, before I scale it up much more.

Overall, I feel like this idea can work. I want to use this thread to keep myself motivated and journal all my stats. I will try do my best to update this thread once a day. If you ever any questions about my journey, just ask!
    :)

Good luck mate :) I think you're going in the right direction. You can use YT videos as well to create some review videos for upcoming games, and grow your channel.

    Quick Update

Today, I haven't done too much work. I've been pretty busy, but I still got a little done.

I am in the process of finishing up the 5th article. Hopefully it will be up by tommorow. I also ordered three 600 word articles from a fellow BHW member. They should be delivered within the next 48 hours. I usually write all my content myself; however, in order to save some time, I am going to outsource some of the writing. I also set up a mobile version of the website for all those iPhone users out there. In addition, I also worked on my "About Us" and "Contact" pages. Although I still have a little more work to do on them.

I am already starting to see some traffic from my blog comments, so that is pretty encouraging. Still no sales, but I'm not really expecting to get that many early on in my launch. However, before I do anymore backlinking, I plan to upload more content. As you are more likely to get a sale with more than 4 articles.

I plan to give a more detailed update over the weekend, so be on the lookout for that!

    Update

We are officially a week into my website's launch. Over the past couple of days, I have mainly focused on admin stuff (ex. setting up categories, creating an "about us" page, making a sitemap, setting up Google Analytics and Webmaster Tools). And now, I have all that stuff done.

I also managed to publish another article, along with outsourcing 3 more (testing out a fellow BHW member's writing service). In the coming week, I plan to mainly focus on content. And once I feel I have enough content throughout the website, I will begin to focus on backlinking. Speaking of which, I am still seeing about 2-3 visits a day from the 3 "test" comments I made several days ago.

Nonetheless, I don't see the point in creating more backlinks until I have a decent amount of content.

Over the past few days, I also managed to create a Facebook and Twitter page for my website. So in the coming week, I also plan to do a little social marketing.

I hope everyone is enjoying this journey, and if you ever have a question or idea, don't hesitate to let me know.

    Quick Update

I now have 6 articles published on my website. I'm still waiting on those 3 articles I ordered from a BHW member. I reached out to him, and he said he won't be able to get them to me until probably Tuesday or Wednesday. I'm setting a goal to have at least 20 articles published by this time next week. I feel the website is coming together quite well. For now, I will just continue to to focus on quality content. Once I feel I have enough content, I will start backlinking.

In the meantime, I submitted my website to webmaster tools; however, my articles still haven't been indexed (its been around 2 days since I submitted my website to Webmaster tools). So, does anyone have any advice on this? Does it usually take this long?

I hope everyone is enjoying this journey! If you ever have any questions for me, just let me know!

Hey, goodluck on the journey. The method is definitely viable. Amazon can be really good if you can get a lot of traffic.

When you submitted the site did you do a "fetch as google"? I've found that usually gets it done pretty quick. I wouldn't be super worried after 2 days though. I've seen it take a week.

If it takes longer than that I'd look at the history of the domain..if you didn't do that before you bought it. Sometimes you can register one you think is brand new that has been trashed in the past.

    Update

Hey guys! I've been real busy lately, so I'm sorry I haven't updated you guys! I am now up to 9 articles on my website, with several more ready to be published. I also went ahead and created a Facebook and Twitter page. I purchased a Facebook like service here on BHW for 100 likes (only $1). I did this to give my Facebook page a more "popular" look. People only like what other people like, right? I also made a few comments on relevant Facebook articles linking back to my website. Once I did this, my articles were almost instantaneously indexed. :)

In the meantime, I have also been creating a few backlinks on Redit. However, I still don't plan to any "major" backlinking until I have around 20 posts uploaded. For anyone curious, I have about $120 invested in this website so far. The money went toward domain and hosting, premium design, and a few articles. I still haven't seen any return on my investment, but that is to be expected this early on.

My main goal for the rest of this week is to get 20 articles published on the site. So in other words, content will be my main focus. Overall, I feel like things are coming together pretty well. If anyone has any questions about my plan, methods, etc.... just let me know!

    Update

It looks like I'm going to fall short of my 20 article goal for this week. I currently only have 13 articles published, but I have a 1000 word beast I plan to publish in the morning. I'm seeing a little traffic from social media and backlinks, but nothing to major. I am considering changing up my method of monetization in the long run. Yes, my website does gaming reviews, but that's not what its all about. I also want to discuss rumors, news, guides, etc... So I'm thinking maybe some kind of Ad may be better. But for now, I'm mainly concerned with uploading content. That will probably continue to be my main focus as we enter week 3 of the website's launch.

I'm pretty happy with my progress so far, and I'll do my best to keep you guys updated. If you guys ever have a question for me, don't hesitate to let me know!

    Quick Update

I've now got 17 articles published (including the 1000 word beast). Today I'm going to focus on revising some articles by adding a little more content. I may also make some revisions to the design, but I'm pretty happy with the way it is now.

As far as traffic goes, I'm only getting about 5UV a day, mainly from Redit backlinks and social media. But after I make some revisions today, I'll get started on some serious backlinking.

Still no sales, but I'm not even 3 weeks into the launch yet.

    Major Update

You guys thought this journey was dead, huh? Well, not just yet. I just got a little lazy with the updates. But let's go ahead and get started with this update!

At the time of my last update, I only had 17 articles published. But now, I have 57 published. Now, don't get too excited. A lot of these articles are simple news updates (usually 150-300 words); however, I do have a good bit of reviews, top ten lists, and other "fun stuff." (usually 400-1000+ words) Oh, and for those who forgot, my niche is gaming, quite a competitive niche. On my website, we discuss topics such as gaming rumors, reviews, and news updates, very similar to websites such as IGN or Gamespot. And for those who are wondering how much money I've made so far? Well, the answer is 10 cents..... Yea, you read that right..... 10 cents. The website launched around 7 weeks ago, so I'm not sure what a good timetable would be to expect any kind of return. Although it gets a little depressing not seeing any kind of return, I keep pushing forward. Like I mentioned in one of my earlier posts, I was looking to implement Ads alongside my Amazon affiliate links. In turn, I joined Adsense, and published their ads to my website. Hence, the 10 cents I earned.

As far as website statistics go, the website is now seeing around 50UV a day. Although some days it can be a little more or a little less. Most of my traffic comes from comments on relevant blogs and articles, mainly from websites such as IGN, Gamespot, Eurogamer, etc... I also see some traffic coming from Social Media, which has been my main focus throughout this journey, but more on that latter. As far as organic traffic goes, I haven't seen too much. Maybe 2-3 organic visits a week. Hopefully we will see an increase in this over time.

Like I said earlier, the website now has 57 articles. Recently, I've been trying to link several of the articles together. Doing so will hopefully bring the bounce rate down. The only kind of "SEO" I do is backlinking (as I stated earlier). This is because I really want to focus on social media right now. (I'll post some social media statistics at the end of this update)

On another note, I also began a YouTube channel. As of now, I only post recent and relevant game trailers. In fact, I only launched the channel 3 or 4 days ago. I haven't seen any traffic from YouTube yet, but hopefully that changes soon.....

Well, I think that about covers it. I'll have a quick summary below! I hope everyone is enjoying this thread. Any advice is appreciated! If you ever have any questions, don't hesitate ask, because I'll probably have an answer for ya!
    :)

    Summary (Website Statistics)

    --- Average of 50UV a day

    --- 57 published articles

    --- Now implementing Adsense Ads

--- Only made 10 cents to date
