Hey everyone,
I few of the earlier members involved in TikTok might remember me, I wrote the TikTok megathread a few months back.

For those that don't know, I've been a TikTok approved advertiser for 6 months now with a dedicated account manager and access to the Creator Marketplace.

Over the last few days, TikTok has rebranded its ad platform to TikTok For Business. They're getting ready to hugely scale their monetization. They've also done a huge ban wave ready for advertisers on the platform.

For the last 6 months, I've used my ad buyer at TikTok who I organise ads with but there is now a complete dashboard and self service portal. You still need to be approved and very few countries can use it (not US or UK) although we can target any location.

I'm here to answer any questions you have about Tiktok, more specifically ads and if anybody wants a specific part of the dashboard screenshotted (campaign objectives, targeting), just let me know.

Let's go!

Update: Can confirm the new platform does have a TikTok pixel and full conversion tracking.

Official guidance sent to me via email.
1 Prioritize content creation
Make vertical videos to provide audience with full-screen immersive experience.
Keep the length of the video less than 20 seconds to catch eye balls.
Best to have 3 creatives in an ad group and keep adding fresh creatives every week.
2 Be a bit aggressive on bidding at the beginning
If you are setting up a conversion campaign, then we recommend you bid 20%~30% higher than expected CPA to ensure the new campaigns attract enough traffic volume, based on which the algorithm could quickly learn and target the audience that are more likely to convert.
3 Find a balance in using targeting
If you have a very specific target audience, then yes, use demographic targeting to reach the ideal crowd. Otherwise, AVOID applying multiple targetings in the same ad group so you don't narrow down the target audience pool. Leave it to our AI-powered algorithm to identify the right audience for you!
START CREATING ADS

Targeting options include all the usuals as well as cell phone carrier/network + value of phone.

Yeah $50 is the minimum spend. It will come down eventually. Most platforms start like this. USA can't be targeted using the self-service portal but can if you are a platinum partner and have access to an account manager.

Hey thanks for the AMA.

1) Do they still have targeting for India showing?
2) Do you know how they've carried out their ban wave? Has it been for inappropriate content largely?

Targeting for India is available.

They tightened their content restrictions and implemented a new machine learning tool to identify potentially infringing content.

Early July they will roll out a new anti-automation update.

Pixel must be installed manually. The only other integration is Google Tag Manager. Integration with major CMS platforms is planned.

Thanks for this, very interesting.
Don't suppose you have more info on the anti-automation update? I know there are users here who would be interested.

Still fishing for information with my account manager. Reading between the lines of what I've been told, all this time TikTok has been collecting data on the way that people use the platform and training an algorithm to spot anomalies. They're planning to use the Instagram tactic of tracking millions of data points (how long your finger taps the screen, how quickly your finger swipes) all that kind of thing. Scrolling back up rather that constatly down.

My account manager doesn't know loads about this, only their compliance team knows the details and nobody is willing to get me a meeting with them.

Thanks! If you find out more I hope you can update us. Much appreciated.

Can You show any stats?
There is a huge report generation tool that you can use to put together custom stats.

I haven't yet run any real ads through the portal, only via my account manager so I don't have any data. Here's a screenshot of the standard dashboard:
