Am I wasting my abilities?

Hi,

Actually I don't even remember how I found this board but it has awakened my interest because apparently a lot of people seem to make money with mere traffic. Let me tell you a bit about myself. I'm a 24 years old CS graduate who has been into programming since childhood. Right now I'm working as a data scientist but I've also a lot of experience as a fullstack web dev and did a lot of reverse engineering (known as "cracking") in my free time, so I would say there aren't many problems I can't solve programmatically. It's not that I'm earning bad but looking at some of the posts here I kind of have the feeling that I'm wasting a lot of potential and I actually feel a bit dumb asking you this because you people keep talking about traffic. For me as a dev, traffic is just that, traffic (GBs/TBs).
Can you recommend anything? What should I familiarize myself with because even if I had a web service with a million visitors per day, I wouldn't know how to make money off it. It almost feels like I'm living in a sphere.

Looks like doing a JV with an already established internet marketer would be the best point to start.

Look around the forum and see if you can get a pro who you can strike a JV deal with.
 
I would say hire someone who does know how to do certain things like marketing.
 
Can you break google recaptcha to get the key that is sent with the final http post request?
 
Maybe @yakuzaemme is hiring. He’s on the lookout from time-to-time for people with skills. See if he is interested.

Don’t forget that a lot of “traffic” methods are done with the help of good soft- and hardware. See what gets asked around these parts, and figure out a way to answer the demand. All after you got a blue or pink name, of course.
 
Create software that solves problems for online marketers. There are things to automate on almost any social media website.
Sell it as a monthly subscription.
Great side income in addition to your day job as a programmer.

Just because you have a skill doesn't mean you will make lots of money. Especially if you are working for someone else.

My 2 cents: Recently saw a literal rip off of photoshop online: photopea com and it works even arguably better than the actual thing since you don't have to download anything. Maybe you could do something similar. Cracking a well respected software and making your own 'bootleg' version of it with ads.
 
This board is a great source for ideas. Find something that people are complaining about, something that takes a lot of time or resources to accomplish and create a service that will fill that need.
Even if you are not good at marketing, it's not a problem, you can learn as you go. To start with, once you have your own product that will save a lot of time to the members here, become a VIP, this way you would be able to advertise your product here. That will give you the kickstart you need to scale up by hiring people that are more knowledgeable of the aspects you want to improve in your business.
