I notice a lot of the Proxy List threads here half dozens of ips posted daily.

Do you guys manually go through them on by one until you find a fast one that is up for a while?

I manually highlight + right click each ip > add to foxy proxy (firefox addon) > then refresh the page to see if it loads.

Then double check the ip change at whatismyipaddress

Is there a better way?

I only use them to access certain websites.

absolutely not, get proxy fire or scrapbox to check the proxies.

thanks I downloaded it and followed the tutorial.

Couple of questions though.

Compare the proxies from kosten I was using before compared to the proxies in the 'free list' section.

I choose ones on Charon with the lowest ping. Yet they still take forever to load. I only found 1 American Anonymous proxy. It said it had 66 ping. It took about 30 seconds for google to load compared to Kosten USA proxies which only took 6 seconds tops.

The proxies also seem to time out randomly. I will have to refresh the page back. So 30+ second page loads if they time out is really annoying.

Why does it do this?

Also is there a faster way from copy/pasting the IP from Charon into add proxy in Foxy Proxy?

Thanks

sadly ive never used foxy proxy so im not in a position to say
no doubt some one else will be right behind me to point you
in the right direction on your question - i can sense it

Proxy ping time and proxy speed are two different things. A proxy can ping quickly but have little spare bandwidth to load pages because everyone is hammering (using) them. It takes almost no BW to answer a ping. Loading a page is a different story.

To get an idea of the better proxies most will use the Google test to see if a proxy is decent. They call these Google passed proxies. When a proxy is tested for google pass, it calls up the google search page and sends a test search and waits for a valid response. If it times out, doesn't load the google search page or doesn't get a valid answer then it's not a "google passed" proxy.

This is a crude way of separating the good from the bad. To pass Google test the proxy has to be able to pass a POST query and receive a response. Better proxy testers will check if the proxy can send POST, accept cookies, send referrers, level of anonymity and of course Google pass.

If you do the Google pass test first or test the proxy against a page looking for a phrase you'll quickly find the better proxies and oftentimes they don't have the best ping times but they do have decent bandwidth. Novices go for proxies with the fast ping time and if the proxy had any bandwidth at all it's quickly saturated by users. The low hanging fruit are a bit slower ping times but still have available BW to load your pages.

HTH

does it matter which country the proxies are from for the speed? The USA one I chose was constantly timing out. The Brazilian one was very slow but (20+ seconds per page load) but it didn't time out once.

I notice on most Chinese proxies avast gives a malware pop. Why is this?

Yes, proxy performance depends on a lot of factors including your distance from the server. The closest distance, the better speed. Regarding the malware warning-- note that you should be careful when using public proxies, as some are setup for nefarious purposes (for example, when you download an application through a public proxy, malware can potentially be injected into the download by the proxy; in other cases, proxies are "honeypots" setup by government agencies to monitor activity)

I don't use proxies for downloading. Only browsing blocked websites / forums.

Avast says it blocks the malware and the proxy is still running. So I am not sure what the malware was trying to do if I was not downloading anything?

How do I know which are good and bad then if there is no pop up?

I try to avoid any Chinese website / proxy because they usually have keyloggers.

I don't even know if any of these free proxies are properly working.

I could be going to a page, the proxy fails and then they see my real IP address show up while I am typing something on a forum.

I am getting ALL my proxies from the free section with DAILY updated lists. I test them in Charon.

Then try google and they load.

Then try whatismyip and they load.

Then refresh these pages and they die. I get this message.

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

Who knows how many sites I have gone and the proxy failed midway and probably my IP is seen.

bump. All of the free elite l1/l2 proxies are painfully slow. The USA ones never work after trying to load a page for the second time / new page. Get that error I posted above. Yet on Kosten they always worked. The Chinese ones are the ones that work. They are SUPER slow though and sometimes timeout so I have to wait like a minute before refreshing to get the page backup. They could be keylogging me too. That's why I don't use real emails on them.

if all u wanna do is web browse spend a couple of $ on some
private proxies, problem solved

sorry bro don't got money for that, but if you can help answer my questions I would appreciate it that.

So ping is not everything.

Why am I still getting these errors on USA proxies? I am using Charon, they are not dead. I can go to google, then I refresh google and get that error.

When the proxies die my real IP will be shown.

How do I know which Chinese ones are keylogging? Which to avoid?

Charon does a one time check to see if a page responds and says the proxy is live. Simple concept. If you pull up Google and it shows then it's live. If you refresh and it doesn't load the page and kicks you off then it's not good for browsing.

When the proxy doesn't allow access and the page can't be displayed then nothing is showing your real IP. Well that's if you put the address in the browser as proxygo's tutorial shows. If you're using a 3rd party software to manage IPs than I don't know how that works.

You don't know if any proxies are keylogging; it's just not Chinese ones. You could be using USA proxies that captures a full log of any user entries.

Public proxies aren't some sort of free service offered by people with large hearts. Most are unauthorized access to private networks where the security is lax. You are using someone's network without permission and when we say they die, they don't die but some network admin discovers unauthorized access is happening and they change the security to block unauthorized access. We say they died but they didn't die they blocked the public from the unauthorized access.

To think you are going to find publicly listed proxies that are reliable, L1 with HTTPS and will last any sort of time you're chasing a pipe dream. You are one of MILLIONS looking for the same nirvana. People doing less research than you are slamming these public lists in SB by the tens of thousands and any proxy that will pull up a webpage is having 100% of the bandwidth sucked out of it until a network admin or network security feature blocks public access. You're chasing a ghost is what I'm trying to tell you.

Proxygo has the right answer, purchase some cheap shared private proxies or dedicated private proxies and get your work done. Otherwise burn your days chasing and testing public proxies searching for the Elite with HTTPs that millions of others missed.

+ with the news of the usa botnet going round
ide avoid usa public proxies like the plague unless
you want to become part of it without your knowledge

just spend 1$ and get a few shared proxies

ok all good information and makes sense.

I don't have money right now though.

So what if the proxy died while was a viewing the page? Like I didn't refresh. Would it show my real IP then, or would it just show I disconnected in the logs of the persons website?

Like I said I use Foxy Proxy Firefox addon. Easier way of adding IPs and turning them off instead of manually inputing. So when I turn them off, would they still be logging if they WERE a keylogger? Do I need to turn off my browser and then open it again because there might be some cookies/cache left over? I always exit my browser. I just want to know if it makes a difference.

The Proxies only affect the browser right? Not my whole connection? Because when I go to internet explorer it's my IP when Firefox is using the proxy IP.

Thanks
