Am I stupid?

How is it going so far? How is your traffic? Are you currently making any money from your monetization methods?

it's a sub-domain from my current main domain that I've been working on for the past 6 months let's just say if I left the website to run for a week it will be averaging around 8-10K unique visits per day

I make nothing as my focus was not to make money for the past 6 months I decided to build a good database and hold back the adsense for now

You could treat each category as a niche, however goog likes to categorize sites it seems. So if there is a highly SEOd site both on and off page dealing with cars, and you have a general site with cars, computers, handbags etc... chances are the site that focuses on cars will do better. A general info site would be more for trending social topics in my opinion. Watch Goog trends, twitter and write articles about what is trending type of thing. Depending on how you promote it, you could get some nice follower traffic that shares your articles around (if they are interesting) This would get you on the map.

It would probably take a very long time to start ranking on any given topic on a general site. If you don't have the resources to go balls to the wall then focus on niche.

Just my opinion of course.

I don't know what this is refered to! Did the OP edit his thread after this ?

Yeah, he's realized he has been a twat and he's edited out his first line which was something like:

ok now i've gotten you to click on my thread with the attractive title.

blah blah blah blah

This is why I responded saying he is stupid. He probably got neg rep'd so decided to edit it out before losing anymore rep though, so I've included what he said here for anyone who missed it. :-)

The key to making money in IM is not necessarily just traffic, but targeted traffic - simply put, traffic that converts.

To answer your question about whether or not it is worth it to switch from mass market to niche, the answer is no....don't switch. Instead, build on this method that you have - especially if it generates a fair amount of broad based traffic. Once they get to your pages, send them to more focused pages on those individual niches.

If your site gets broad search term traffic from Google for sports, cars, and whatever else, then begin to develop niche sites related to each of these topics such as Fantasy Football, baseball, soccer or exotic cars, family wagons, etc. You get the point.

It really boils down to how much work you are willing to put into this marketing method and the returns that you are looking for. You sound as if you would like to re-think your strategy because you are not satisfied with your results thus far.

My personal recommendation would to not necessarily abandon the 'mass market' approach, but to successfully incorporate niche marketing methods with it. It will require the same efforts, as you have done with the mass approach site, to build niche sites as article writing, SEO, etc. are the same....it's just the content that is different and perhaps your sites' design. Cost could be higher as more domains would probably need to be purchased because sub-domains just look too messy and unprofessional (leading to lower conversion).

Conversion is the key to successful internet marketing. Targeted traffic is more likely to click on your offers or even just your Adsense ads in hopes of finding further information on a subject. Drive 100,000 people to a mass info site and receive 50 clicks or drive 1000 targeted people to a 100 different niche sites with 50 clicks each...your choice ultimately but I know which tactic I would prefer.

It also depends on what method you are using to monetize your site. It sounds like Adsense is your focus here but I could be wrong. Lots of traffic is good but it's what you intend to do with that traffic that matters. Mass Information sites actually can do well here if they are set up correctly and are based on highly coveted search terms(i.e. - insurance, medical, health, finance, etc.) as the CPC rates can really add up with just a few clicks. Mass affiliate review sites work well too if they are set up correctly by capturing leads with e-mail opt-ins, etc.

Using what you have already built with the mass marketing approach and linking to various niche sites from there is a good idea. From those niche sites, you can experiment with several different monetizing strategies as a test and then figure out what works best for you.

Good luck with your project!

Yes you can start in combination of lots of niches in one website. I don't understand why people are always talking about "Go for Niche sites"..
Isn't that people who write about personal interest like cooking, cars, health get traffic?

years ago when I started I also thought this was a good idea. I built a general website and started talking about everything, turned out to be a very very bad idea and the site was a complete failure.

It's better to pick a niche and grow to be authority site on this niche (If you want something big and something to brag about)

BTW if you want to make money, it's not all about the traffic. You can have a site with 100k unique per month and only making few hundred bucks, and a site with 5-10k unique a month making $20k

You have to consider your keywords, your content, and your product/ad placement

this is exactly what I was after someone who has been there and done it thank you so much for replying mate I understand where your coming from with the figures it seems I was slightly hasty in making this & luckily I came to think of it this morning thanks again

Fantastic I repeat fantastic bit of information very informative - you said the niche conversions are more but you'd pick mass? right now it isn't sub domains within my domain its just 1 sub domain which has plenty of categories but this could also be a good idea that you've stated above thank you for your time much appreciated

Well, I met a lot of Successful sites where they write about anything and everything.
But the problem is you gonna need to rank every single article you write as google will have really painful time knowing what you are doing.

XFactor regrets making broad site ( Which is VERY successful site btw ) about Health. Cuz he found if he could cut it into small Specific Niche sites it would be more profitable as ranking would be easier.

So , being able to put 10 unique articles/day is really amazing. U did the hard part. If I were you I would take sometime planning and dividing them into 3 or 4 specific niche sites.

Hope this helps. And those people who want to -Rep you, I have no idea what is wrong with them... !

But I think you should try to make a more specific title next time to help people knowing what you want be4 entering. I guess you are missing a lot of experiences out there.

You will never know what's going to happen unless you try monetizing it. Article Directories have made a killing with hundreds of different niches, so why not give it a try?

Yes I was surprised myself at the first few comments I got here but yes I know to do a proper title the next time nevertheless thank you for your input I'm leaning more against niche after making this thread

As if you think about it you are more likely to get direct visits to the website when someone has a keen interest in that particular area thanks again

interesting bit of information mate thanks for posting much appreciated

haha wow the beginning of this thread didn't go so well eh?

anyways, here's my opinion: by going mass market, it's hard to figure out how to target your actual "target audience". It's like anything else, learn to conquer one market and then keep moving. By targeting a mass market, your head is going to spin because you won't know where to start and you can't relate very well to EVERYBODY. Understand that makes a customer buy in a given niche market by fixing their problems with your solutions and you'll have better success!

best of luck!

Friend, I think you got those comments only because you asked for it. No one wants to insult or troll others especially on this forum. I hardly see any senior member doing so. Had you posted sensibly, then you could have got sensible replies from members like you are getting now. It's a lesson and I think you learnt it fast.

In regards to your post, I think its high time you focused on a particular niche. I'd like to give a simple example from real life. Say for instance you decide cutting four wooden logs simultaneously on any given day, just note down the time taken by you to cut a single log. Next day take a single log and try cutting it, obviously the time taken for cutting a single log would be lesser. All I tried pointing out is, don't let your efforts diversify, instead focus all your energy on a single niche and make sure you work on it until you are reaping great results and it's a goldmine. Posting random posts on your website confuses your visitors, they are never sure what exactly you wish to focus on and it's highly unlikely that they will return on your site. And yes lastly I want to suggest you that please stop making fool of yourself. Take yourself seriously, if you want others to take you seriously. Cheers.

Since you market is going pretty well, why not maximize it to the highest level. However, if you are looking for a long term plan why not select a niche to focus on and optimize it as much as you could. :)
