I am a very good graphic design and web developer. Skills which should be bring the bacon. I have advertised, leaflets, cold calls everything. At the minute im getting very little in the way of work, and when I do get clients they all tell me how great my work is. I've even had industry professionals tell me how good it is. So I know its not like im turning out crap, im a perfectionist and make sure every piece of work I do is perfect.

So where am I going wrong? Got good website traffic, but I think for this kind of service very little converts from the website.

Is there something im missing? I'm marketing myself at the higher end B2B clients. So budgets of 1k-10k. Any tips for you BHW folks would be amazing.

(Sorry if that sounded ranty)

Stay in action, keep doing what you're doing

Maybe you should expand to the online marketing? Sell your skills here on BHW and other various internet marketing sites

How long have you been in business? It takes time to build things up. Also, I find networking and meeting other business people face to face seems to work better than adverts and leaflets. People are more likely to hire someone they know and like/trust.

The problem with online places ie. Elance. etc is that people are after nasty work for cheap. Doesnt really suit what I am trying to achieve/sell which is great work, and people that know its value.

Hi,

You will probably find that most high end B2B have their own internal departments.

But what do you mean by high end - are you talking international brands like Samsung?

It can take a while for you to establish yourself in B2B, especially if you are targeting the higher spectrum of Businesses. With B2B, it is not always how good your products/services are, it is always how best you are presenting it to the clients. Not to mention the competition you will face from established players with more money and resources.

B2C on the other hand can give you relatively faster growth and decent flow of income. Like others have pointed out, you can easily open a sales channel online (bst?) and spend some time popularizing it. You may not earn as much as you would with a Business house but it keeps your cash flow running.

No, I am talking about medium-large business's which are mostly offline currently and do not have in-house teams. People that put quality before cost.

Post up some of your marketing materials and tactics for a critique. It's tough to say what might and might not be working with a vague description of what you've tested thus far. Would be great to see your portfolio too. ;)

If you have a legitimate business with a price list and portfolio then I would be interested in taking a look. If you are very good and have competitive pricing then I may give you some work. If you aren't very good or you don't have competitive pricing then I will be happy to provide feedback.

PM your website if you are interested.

Also, if you posted this semi-rant to generate some interest in your portfolio then you are a clever marketer.

First and fore most, Northern Ireland has a very concentrated market of web and graphic designers. There are literally hundreds spread across such a tiny area.

Are you asking for referrals from your current and past customers? You don't say 'hey can you give me a referral' cause that doesn't work. At the end of the day its who you know.

I know a graphic designer who is high end and it took him 5 years to get big clients but he got 'in' with the right contacts through his own customers who always referred him. Start making some partnerships with providers in with the companies you want by offering them something they can't resist. So find some magazine publishers, as an example, who are high end and give them something for free to get your foot in the door then your opportunities will be open-wide.

Go on a fact-finding mission to go where people in your industry go and see how their doing it, good luck!

send me a link so i can take a look please. I might need your services

Hi,

Create some illusive design sample and host it on free site. When anyone seeks sample refer them to it.
Get some +ve feed back from existing client and publish it .

This forums a great way to make money showing off your mad skills

I think you have to select business with poor website or graphic. Create a small report about their graphic and how can you improve it and then send them a letter.
Make your own twist to the 7878's method
Good luck and never give up!

Feedback I got that worked wonders: let a proofreader fix the english on your website.
