Hi,

Ranking my local cleaning business, but having harder time than i thought. My biggest question is about structure of domain and innerpages.

I'm ranking for pretty easy keywords right now, around 50-100 monthly searches.
Current structure: domain.com/service-location

I also have service pages without location interlinking with location pages (domain.com/service pointing to /service+location page)

Is it smarter to change the structure with Domain.com/service/location or Domain.com/location/service.

Next questions: Say you are ranking for house cleaning, but also want to rank for maid service.
Would you go : Domain.com/maid-service-NY then create Domain.com/house-cleaning-NY as a separate page?

Right now i have 5 pages with keyword variations for 1 keyword. Should i redo and combine into one page? They are not LSI, single keyword.

Thank you!

I dont think it is going to make a real difference to change subdirectories either way.

Do you need to have separate pages, is it the same service or not? Making one page per keyword is mostly a thing of the past, you can rank one page for multiple keywords.

I dont think combining is a great idea (but depends on details I dont have), you can use the canonical tag to tell google which page is the main page.

From reading your post, it seems you hope to improve rankings by tweaking the site structure, but there is a limit to how far this will lead you. To go further backlinks will be needed at some point.

Maybe try a silo structure if you have enough content possibilities for that. Also basic things like speeding up the site or make a sitemap.xml could help, if you didn't already do that.
For local businesses like yours you can build backlinks pretty easy by listing yourself in as many online business directories as possible!

You might be overthinking things. For my local business in my town, I did a lot of work on GMB which is a major factor of ranking locally (need to be active on it, post, events, properly filled out, etc.)

Make sure to get as many local citations/local business directories filled out with your accurate information, this helps move the needle also, then move on to bigger citation sites, etc.

For your page, I would just make it so they target your homepage with "keyword + town". So if you're doing cleaning services, it would be describing your Cleaning services in NY or something to that degree.
You can also add more keywords that people would search as you describe what your business does for that area. You can search what your locality is searching for with tools.

I want users to target my main page as all my CTA's are right there when you get on it and it is super easy to navigate to specific areas on the site and convert users to get them to book with us.

Also for example, if you look for your keyword + area on google you will see most of it targets the homepage anyways. I find other pages on the site for local businesses is just for added information they can read up on.

Im already ranking top with gmb, but im having hard time ranking the service+location Pages. Will add more info when i get home. Thanks for the answers so far!

Forget about the website and focus on gmb. Then once that's ranked, start work on the website. Go for the silo methodology

GMB and local citations seem like that's probably the best way to go.

I'd recommend grabbing all competitor links and analyze how their URLs lookalike and what are the top referring URLs.
Then revise your website for the best strategy
