"But what society thinks? what your parents/relatives and friends thinks about you if you don't have one"?

But what about what my cat thinks? Honestly, who cares about what some people who probably won't even be alive a few decades from now 'think'? The Earth has been around for 4.54 billion years and the average human lifespan is 75 years. These people have been around, what, about 0.00000165% of that time? Do you really think that their petty opinion about how you should have procured a college degree like they did matters? More than likely, even if you did get a college degree, these people will not be passing around campfire stories to their children about your great success in life, so stop worrying about what anyone else thinks. You've chosen an esoteric route in life, and because of this, you're going to attract the negative attention of neurotypicals who can never comprehend what you've done with your life. The only reason that society wants you to get a college degree is because they want to keep the illusion that "only smart people destined for success go to college" alive. College gives normal people hope, and by you blatantly skipping college (some people believe it's imperative to go and not a choice) and making more money than they could ever fathom, you have disrupted their world. Because of this disruption, everyone's abysmal imagination is going to try to work, and they're going to make erroneous assumptions like how you're not intelligent enough to get a college degree regardless of how much money you make.

If you're looking to impress and relate to the majority of the humans of this planet, then go get a degree, work in an office, and type barely intelligible posts on Facebook that read "Ugh, hump day... Why can't it be Friday so I can go down to the club and blow all the money I just earned on alcohol because my life is miserable but I want to pretend that my life has meaning". If you're looking to do something you enjoy doing and make money while doing it, then continue with what you're doing and make friends with people who won't judge you on a piece of paper that has your name and the name of an indoctrination mill written on it.

Don't worry about what others think if you're not doing any visible crimes. :D

My grandma never went to school, lived in a village, and yet she ran a successful grocery store (from age 50+ till about she was 75~80) after my grandpa expired. My father and uncles had been in Mumbai and had taken up jobs, and they had asked the parents to live with them in the city, but they both loved the little village and their home there. They were determined to live on their OWN income till their last, and did so eventually.

Education has no value if it doesn't teach you how to overcome difficulties and hurdles, and make ways when everything seems lost... our generation got a "degree" but that didn't instill the determination to do well in life on or OWN. We worked for others and mostly became slaves to others, while many of the older folks got their real education from the events and tests their life presented to them continuously, AND overcame them and survived well!

If you want to work for a company or some individual then a degree may be very essential, but if you've learned to work on your own and make a living, have learned the art of survival, and also your life's events have made you a good human being, then may be a degree course isn't an important issue, and it can take a toss as well into a well. :)

Really? Who the hell cares what society thinks. Success is success.

I'd be happy with a 3rd grade graduation star on my forehead, if I knew I'd be successful in life.

Indian ? I know the feeling bro , mohalle wale kya kahenge SHit .
"Get a degree and do a job 9-5 and you are gentleman " This is views for many of my relative too .

It is not really an issue as the older you grow the more people will be looking at your experience instead of what you studied. I finished Masters in 2001. 13 years down the line noone gives a damn what my studies were about and most of the times on interviews we talk about the experience of my last 2 job roles.

Oh and bare in mind, all those who said bill gates and mark zuckerburg etc etc don't have a degree does not mean those with out degrees will do better. It is true generally speaking those with a degree are higher paid in life. This is because hard working people are more likely to be successful.

my education is only until high school. friends around me do not disqualify my current low paying job, but they will still question me what i want to achieve in the future. i then got myself into IM and had an even hard time convincing them i am OK.

i dont know about you, but for some reason, until I created a proper product/service that is known by thousands of people, i feel that i have failed. People like Jobs and Gates created something important, so they are not doubted by people.

The dumbness of the bhw people has gone through the roof. Another reason why I don't visit this site much anymore.

OP, your question blows too. If you are already making 6-7 figures all being self-learned, and have been in the industry for several years making a consistent revenue, what do you think the answer would be? Attend college and learn everything you already know?

Hahahaha. :) This is hilarious, sad and true.

The extra funny part is that some people feel like they've failed in life if they don't take up the same route. It's insecure people influencing other insecure people. If you're confident then you've already succeeded. You don't need money, products, jobs or an education.

One thing is sure here in OP's case: All the money in the world still can't bring peace, fulfillment, and contentment... the mind needs to have some irrelevant matter to hang on and make the entire self very miserable and sink itself in self-sympathy... until the mind is not subjected to tight discipline in staying on course, this will recur time and again. The solution is such cases, surprisingly, is lying almost under the nose, simply waiting to be picked up and applied in the right way.

A wise person would do a self analysis on this matter, and if needed then he will join some educational course and get a degree that he feels is sorely missing on his trophy shelf, or will complete the education (and get that degree) to get a real sense of satisfaction that he has achieved another fulfillment of his dream into reality.

Now here is also an angle of "what would they all think about me, because of (whatever)..."

I admit that he has a concerned desire to know from his friends here what steps to take because he is in a dilemma. He is very successful otherwise, but it is still not allowing him to be fully contented because he is missing that one thing, which in his opinion is more important for his friends relatives and parents than all his other achievements, and it's the educational degree, which he feels can bring more acknowledgement from others whom he really cares for, and which he thinks will make them more happy... I am happy that all his success hasn't gone to his head, and he has a genuine concern for his family and friend and needs to know what other achievement in his life would make them more happy! Great!

So may be this is the right solution for him.... may be not:

On such a huge forum, his query will only get him more tangled in confusion. So it's better, imo, that he gets them all together -- his relatives, friends, and parents --- and fearlessly take their collective suggestions and opinions, and only then he can proceed to get that degree or otherwise.

Even if they say he should go for it, but he feels it's not that important any more, it will answer at least the main part of his query -- What will "they" think if he doesn't have the degree? He now knows the answers after discussing the question with them. Right?

At least he will then know what path to take and if he is able to satisfy those people's desires about him if they feel that he should still have the degree. Sometimes it gives more pleasure in fulfilling the desires of those who are close to you, and that achievement also becomes an ongoing blessing than a curse...

The curse, if it at all is a reality in his life, is no more a tormented state! Every one, I think, carries a score of curses of different nature, and many still lead a very happy and contented life despite carrying that burden. It's because they have effectively faced the curse face to face, and have overcome its powers one way or other...

A curse is the continuous tormented state of mind for which you try as much, but aren't able to find the right solution. I hope he is able to overcome the torment, and turn it into blessings in near future. That would be one of his biggest achievements in life, much more valuable than all his millions...

Facing the "curse" without delay, and overcoming it is the sole way out, imho. The solutions to dissolve such curses can be surprisingly very simple and doable...

I am doing IM from last 6 years. It was my part time activity once then I made it full time now its again my part time because my family thinks I play games like the Bingo and make money with gambling LOL. I need to prove them that I can do a real job in life otherwise I will not get a wife.

Go ask someone who has a degree, how much debt do u have then ask someone that doesn't have a degree how much debt do they have.
The ask both of them how much money they make a year. You will find they both make the same amount.

I am not suffering with any financial problem. I am a music video director as well. And i am making 6-7 figures with IM (This is my 8th year).

But what society thinks? what your parents/relatives and friends thinks about you if you don't have one?
Feel free to post your opinions/views :(

If you have nothing to say, please move on.

Dude, are you kidding me? Your way more talented that a piece of paper that says you have a bachelors degree from so and so. People go to school so they can put it on their resume, get hired, and make money. A degree is about making money in the end. .....Sure, some people go to school just so they can say their educated or for ego, but you are clearly educated in the marketing field. A top company would hire you as the Vice president of marketing in a hot second if you showed them your work and income.

Anyone who thinks negatively of you for not having a degree, is simply jealous. You did what they wish they could of done.
