It is goat when your product is white hat.
Else they'll fuck you over on a beautiful Tuesday morning. Sadly if it's not PayPal or Stripe, it's probably gonna be hard to accept credit/debit card payments.

OP maybe look into industry-specific payment processors like Paddle for SaaS, LemonSqueezy, FastSpring (if you're doing huge volumes), Flutterwave, etc, etc.

In my opinion, it can be. But soon I think it will be controlled much more tightly by governments.

Normies trust PayPal after using it for a couple decades, that's why it's so powerful for e-commerce (unfortunately). Nothing replicates that, but offering Google Pay, Apple Pay and other digital wallets through a credit card processor works well too.

Depends on what your needs are. If you are looking for payment gateways it's best to go for those with high acceptance rate, and that integrate various payment methods in their payment modal.
 
For low-caps I would recommend Stripe and Airwallex. Crypto I would use Nowpayments.

They are NOT in the same payment processor category
PayPal alternatives includes; Stripe, Payoneer, Skrill and perhaps Neteller (it depends on your preference)
