Alternative to AdWords

Hello,

I have two sites with around 1,000 hits per month each, both sites are informational. For example 'What time is it in Hong Kong Now?'

I have had AdWords on both sites with 0 clicks for the past few months, to be honest, even if they did click it's only going to get me around $1.

Previously, somebody suggested a mailing list. That won't work here really, what am I going to do, sell them a clock?
What are better alternatives to AdWords? Like a Cost per View type of Advert?
I use them as backlinks at the moment, but other than that, they are pretty useless to me.

Any ideas what I can do to make these sites make money?

One lternative to the topic would be BingAds, but you more than likely meant Adsense.
