Has anyone had any success with some out of the box strategies for connecting with their relevant target market to acquire paying app customers?

I'm looking to find app users interested in organizing their on the go small business, and wondering if I should look at buying an existing base of subscribers through like youtube, or instagram that fit my demographic?

Any success stories with some lateral advertising strategies in terms of monetizing pre-existing audiences?
