Almost 800 impressions on Google but only 3 clicks?

Hi there,

Brand new to SEO not sure but this doesn't seem great. I've been working on my first website for the last 3 weeks or so. Google Search Console says I currently rank 205 keywords with an average position of 46, which seems normal as it's a brand-new site.
The concerning part to me is that out of 800+ impressions I've only managed to get THREE clicks which seems extremely low to me.

Is the clicks-to-impression ratio for brand-new sites? I'm not sure as I have nothing to compare it too.

few clicks usually means low CTR (which in your case - at only 0.4% - is true). You need to work on your salesmanship / marketing skills to improve your CTR.... although, sometimes google rewrites all of your hard work just because they're scumbags, so I don't think you should stress too much over it...

Also, your site is brand new, this type of stats are very common with new sites. And you sound very disappointed, you need to brace yourself for the long run and grow some thick skin because there will be lots of downs in your SEO journey. Your site might even vanish from the SERPs in 1 week (new sites tend to do this a lot), so don't have a heart attack if you see all stats dropping to 0 :D

Last but not least, take stats for what they're worth: a gauge. You glance overt them to figure out where you can adjust / improve, you don't see them once and immediately draw a final conclusion :)

I figured that stats like that are pretty common. Im actually happily surprised that I’m getting close to 100 impressions per day with a site so new. I just thought the amount of clicks would be a little more higher maybe 6-7% range.

I know I still have a great amount of work to do and I’m actually working on building the site up for summer 2025 so I have plenty of time to figure things out haha
 
Its quite normal to have such stats. Here are some stats from one of my own sites.

I am going to build some good backlinks after a while to address this issue to improve my average position.

Your site is still very new and has not got a 'balance' on the search result page. Both the 800 impressions and 3 clicks are too low to draw any conclusions from. But it's a nice thinga that you're getting impressions, it's an indication your pages are getting indexed and appearing on search.

800 impressions is too low to make the judgement you're making now, focus on improving your search appearance and position. The reason you got very few clicks is because the position of your page is very very low.

Go through the GSC report, look for the pagea that got the few clicks, check their position. Search for the keyword yourself and see if your site is still occupying that spot. Compare your site/page to those in the top 10 and make some modifications accordingly. Also, don't forget backlinks as it'll help ensure your new site's authority is improving.

Thank you for your response, currently working on my first 100 blog posts. Once i have that completed I’m going to do out reach with sites in a closely related niche and start building links

That only means you are not ranking on first page. You can't expect traffic from page 2 and beyond.

Right. When doing a search, how often do you scroll down to results in the 40s positions and select one of those results to click? Probably almost never. Once you get some keywords in the top 10 (it will take awhile), then you should see a higher click-through rate.

A low clicks-to-impression ratio is common for brand-new sites.
It often takes time to improve CTR as you build authority and optimize content. Focus on refining your meta titles, descriptions, and content to make your site more appealing in search results

Exactly how do people expect to get any clicks when they are not even ranking for the first page when was the last time you went down in search results to look for a website op is lucky he even got a single click.
