hey everyone.

in the last 72 hours roughly, every inner page on my site has vanished from the primary phrases (4 total). the home page still ranks in position 2 or 3 for each, but the trove of inner pages I had in positions 20-110 are completely gone.

no back links to the site at all, except those from legit press releases.

All white hat on-page seo done in the last 3 months.

where do i even start with this?

Wait and see what happens. If it just happened, it might be a google glitch. Do you use WMT? IF so, any messages. If you have MNT and no messages, its probably a fluke.

If your ranker got banned halfway thru a scan,it may have given you bad results, do a physical search and see if some of tyhe pages are really still where they were and the tool is not accurate.

one mans white hat is another mans black hat. Thats what my great grandfather used to say.

it's not a glitch. I've checked manually. everything is gone.

No messages in wmt.

homepage is fine so far, everything else is jsut gone.

Gotta love em, you work and work to achieve a goal and just get the shaft

This is all great and funny, but does anyone know what may have happened around May 15th to inspire this?

I'm not sure on dates, but within the last 72 hours, all of our inner pages are gone. Home page still ranks in top 5 for all phrases.

Thoughts? suggestions? comments? Ideas? anyone?

One of the things Penguin 2.0 purportedly targeted was inner pages (compared to the original Penguin update that focused more on homepages alone).

My guess is your inner pages for whatever reason did not pass the quality guidelines Penguin 2.0 was looking for and rankings dropped accordingly.

That's because whitehat SEO is useless and a waste of time, better do blackhat SEO, rank high for a month, make 5 figures, then repeat the process. But if you really want to do everything whitehat, don't focus on SEO, just generate good content and share it, check this article

Have you checked all of your backlinks, or paid for any services or did you do all of this yourself? How about your articles etc? Anything strange on ahrefs?

Obviously I agree with Jack above, There's better things to do with your time than over SEO your squeaky clean site. PM me if you want me to take a look.

Like I said in another thread. chill out and wait till the dust settles then evaluate the situation.

I have taken a kicking for some of my non important but slowly earning sites which is a hassle.

Its no longer enough to worry about your backlinks. on site seo is just as important and my sites that got hit were all optimised. Not over optimised, spammed lo quality low content sites, but 15 + page sites of good readable content that was nonetheless obviously keyword/lsi targeted.

I really don't care what anyone's opinion of [color hat] seo is. I'm here interested in information. If you're coming here to voice your opinion without presenting factual data, you're opinion holds no weight with me anyway. So please move on.

That said, I've checked the backlinks. A few from indian websites, which seems off. But the site has a total of 250 backlinks. I can't imagine 1 or 2 links from a weird place causing all of our inner pages to drop while the home pages still rank in the top half of the first page.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but penguin just dropped, right? The site in question saw the movement happen between the 19th and the 21st.

Is there some other update that was rolled out during that time frame that I'm unaware of????

Penguin 2.0 just launched and is supposedly targeting interior pages, according to Matt Cutts. Could be related to that.

anyone elese experienced similar things ? I just noticed my website is bouncing back and forth in google search

Continue to create quality content on and off pages.

When Google change its algorithms, some get hit, some get promoted, however after a month or so, the ranking will start to pick up again. This is a natural rhythm to ranking changes.
