ALL-IN-ONE SMMA Guide
2019

BHW Members ONLY

DISCLAIMER:
No guarantees are claimed with this guide. This is only what I personally did and what
ended up working for me. All results will be different for everyone. I have gotten multiple requests to do something like this. I hope this helps anyone needing it.

Total Costs for this guide: $200/month <--- (optional) $30/month <--- (required)

What to expect:

  • How to properly set yourself up as a Social Media Marketing Agency
  • How to give proper quotes to clients (This will help if you are unsure how much to charge someone for work)
  • List of tools very helpful for SMMA optimization & growth
  • How to compete with the companies that "already made it" (The Big Boys)
  • How to Handle multiple clients and organize all work to reduce future mistakes
  • Build your credit and create financial freedom
  • Earn free trips and hotels

ACCOUNTS TO BE CREATED:

✅ - American Express (Gold Rewards Card if your credit is good. You will be using your cc to pay for ads, so benefit from any company you can to earn points on money you spend. I just used AMEX).
✅ - Shopify (or if you already have a website, EXCLUDE).
✅ - Grasshopper (For collecting calls).
**NOTE: I would recommend having some sort of phone #. Also, when you get calls, you should answer professionally. "Good morning, afternoon, evening this is [INSERT AGENCY NAME], how can I help you?"
✅ - Google Ad Account (The Dashboard will be your best friend. Learn to manipulate your numbers and understand the algorithm. FORGET everything you think you know about Google Ads).
✅ - FB Ad Account
✅ - Facebook Business Page
✅ - SpyFu
✅ - Keywords Everywhere (Google Keyword Extension Tool for CPC and competition)
✅ - Google Business (Not needed but helps if ranking organically)
✅ - Yelp Business Account (Only for USA... Possibly UK too)
✅- Google Sheets Document
✅ - Payment Processor (F**k PayPal. #FundsFrozen)
✅ - Charging Clients
✅ - EMAIL MARKETING in 2019

AMEX
(Get a Credit Card) - Cost: $0

One of the things I kicked myself in the head for was not getting a credit card sooner... I could of redeemed so many points for the amount of money I invested in doing this, and still been positive. It drives me nuts.

Basically, get a credit card (under your name). Any business expense, any website costs, ad costs, ANYTHING. Pay for it with your business credit card... Not only does this make it easier for tax reasons later on...(If valid in your Country).... But also, you are able to earn points with most companies and they will pay for free hotels, flights, vacations, items, etc. Look around and find the best company that fits you. I use AMEX.

WEBSITE - Cost: $30/month

I created my agency website through Shopify. It had nicely pre-built themes, and it seemed much easier for me at the time. If I knew what I know now, I would of 100% went with WordPress. A landing page experience below is an example of something that is converting nicely.

https://imgur.com/GLLBFWa

Look how I made the user experience very nice and clean. As soon as my traffic landed on the homepage, they were presented a message "Want to be Rank #1 on Google?" (Which grabs their attention). And following this, instantly asking for their contact information... When you are running any sort of advertisement or paid traffic, you want to capture as much data as possible before they end up either bouncing between pages or just leaving. These people may not convert now, but 2 emails later you might get them too. Also have nice animations, and most importantly it looked updated and support was easily available. (LIVE chat). Make sure your content has no language errors. Provide knowledge and people will take you seriously.

**If you do not have proper contact methods, you are doing it wrong. Your business email should not be @gmail or @yahoo or anything other than your domain. Stop being cheap, a custom email server costs are like < $5/month. You will be taken seriously and look professional with a proper email. As well as an email signature.

Grasshopper - Cost: $30/month + Custom Greeting
($99 One-Time Payment ) <--- optional

Grasshopper is a Virtual Business Phone System. Basically, when someone clicks your call ad, or dials your phone number that you set up, they are greeted with a professional Introduction with your company. (Google is also requesting in the future that ALL call ads MUST answer their phone with a professional greeting stating your business name or else they will decline your ads. They will do random checks). With Grasshopper, your callers are also able to select from many options prior to being connected with you OR one of your team members. (This makes your company look really important if you do this correctly). Also, you are able to download reports, save phone numbers, create contacts, view call logs, and much more. Very important when optimizing and retargeting later on down the road. If you can afford it, get it.

Google Ad Account - Cost: TBD with SpyFu & Google Keyword Planner
(Keep reading further and I explain)

We will be using Google Ads for High Quality traffic. Guys, stop asking questions like what is the best platform to advertise on? If you are a service, and you are LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO SEARCH TO USE YOUR SERVICE, then use Google. Your money will be spent well if you're using Google Ads correctly. If you want me to do a Google Ad Campaign Guide, let me know.

FB Ad Account - Cost: $5/post min.

Facebook is decent with your SMMA. The problem with FB is that the traffic is not the best quality... If you have a cool video, or some sort of exciting event that would be shared a lot, then post it on FB. You should technically run ads on multiple platforms so I should include Facebook, but our main budgets will be spent on Google. THIS DOESN'T MEAN IGNORE FB ADS. You should boost your posts AT LEAST. Awareness is a good goal when it comes to Facebook Ads. If you want me to do a guide on FB Ad Campaigns for SMMA, let me know.

SpyFu - Cost: $40/month

This tool is my favorite tool. I must give a lot of credit to this tool because without it, I would be a lost boy in the world. SpyFu is a Competitor Keyword Research Tool for Google Ads & SEO Ranking. Not only does it have the ability to show your current competitors keywords and the data they spent. But it ALSO shows you what their best performing ads looked like and the copy (text) that they used. (You guys need to understand, with this tool you are literally able to see the data they get in the Google Ads Dashboard). It is huge how much potential this tool gives, this tool is a MUST have and is a big factor on how I averaged a 9/10 Quality Score on my ads. Sign up and dig into it and see everything it has to offer. The SEO part of this tool is cool, but I mainly use it for Google Ads research. If you want me to do a SpyFu guide, let me know.

Keywords Everywhere - Cost: $0

This is a Google Chrome Extension. Keywords Everywhere is a FREE browser add-on for Chrome & Firefox that shows search volume, CPC & competition on websites used by Internet Marketers. It is pretty amazing and the purpose is obvious. Check out some QUICK and USEFUL information it gives.

Google Business - Cost: $0

Register your SMMA with Google Business. Doing this, will not only improve your online presence for people who look up your agency and want more information on it, but it also is telling the impression that YOU are a MARKETING AGENCY. Google Business will give you a huge credit in the eyes of the impression. Especially if you can get some business reviews, you will be golden. Add it correctly, don't be lazy and not fill in some information. Download some Copyright Free images and use them if you have to, but make it look legit and real and not look like you downloaded copyright free images :D This will boost the impressions confidence to hire you if they do further research on your Agency and realize you also look good on Google. You must realize that if you are going to be a Social Media Marketing Agency, people are going to trust you with not only spending their money, but also building their brand and audience. If you were them, wouldn't you want the best you could afford? Think about that.

Yelp Accounts - Cost: $0

Ok, USA I believe only, but I could be wrong... Yelp is connected with Google and they work together as well as your phones. Go to your maps on your phone, type in marketing agency, and you will see some businesses pop up with reviews from Yelp and some don't. Which one would make you click? Probably the one with most and best reviews. Must I say more? Build a Yelp account, get reviews for your company, register it with Google and connect it with Google Business. Boom. You're welcome.

Google Sheets - Cost: $0

I use Google Sheets because it makes it very simple for me to send progress reports to the client. Also, it comes with pre-made white label templates that you can insert with client information and it comes with calculations. If you are not sending your clients some sort of weekly or daily report, you're doing it wrong. Clients like to stay updated and know that you know what you are doing. Set up a system to where every Monday morning, is report day. Every day you should be reporting the services you perform and the progress that is made.

Payment Processor - Cost: Depends

How are your clients going to pay you? No, they have no clue with Bitcoin is, and if they do, they are scared because their Grandpa told them it's dangerous. Most USA clients will not know what Payoneer, or any other payment method that hatters like us know... The best thing I can recommend is find something that will look trustworthy and creates a simple checkout process. PayPal is what I used, but if you're like me and have $17k FROZEN in PayPal, F**k PayPal.

*** What I did was I quoted people how much the cost would be (on a phone call)... And I would create a custom product called: "Client Ad Spend" and I would ask them to complete the payment on my website. This worked well until I was introduced into another industry that got my PayPal frozen... If you do it this way, you should be good to go though.

Client Charging and Maintenance - Costs: Depends

This is tricky if you are starting from scratch. Since you are reading this guide, you will be taken care of. Look, this is your work, take it as so. You will get multiple people asking for help and don't undershoot your work. That being said, don't overcharge or undercharge your clients? I get it. Here is what I do:

When you get the contact information, be sure to provide a blank so they can insert their URL or business pages on your landing page. Evaluate their business by looking at their numbers (Followers, Likes, etc), determining how long they have been in business, are they new? Do they have an audience? Use the Google Keywords Planner tool and check out their CPC for Google. Only look at high quality keywords and if you want a guide for Keyword Planner, let me know. If the company is new, they more than likely do not have much to spend, sad to say though, it takes more money for a newer company. A valid UPFRONT question is to ask this:

"How much can you afford to spend daily on Ads?"

If they say idk, that's when you can present them with that data you collected from the tools used above. If their average CPC for their keyword is $10. You can expect a 1 out of 10 clicks to convert. (This is just an example). So let the client know this information... This will help them determine a budget to spend as well as trust you with spending their money. Funny thing is, they don't know how much to spend. This does not mean your labor costs. This is asking for how much money they want to spend on ADVERTISING. If they can't afford a minimum of $100/day (saying this makes you look like you can handle decently large money). Then tell them we can still get results with $5/day. But the results are just a bit slower.

^^^ The difference between the two is that if their budget is low, you can charge them a flat fee. Example: $150/month. (Guys, $5/day budget is so low and should not take much of your time to manage. Keep the costs low for the client and they will be happy. Maybe. BUT, if their budget is high and they already have an audience and they want to spend big bucks, charge them a % to maintenance. What I did, was I charged a $150/month fee which covered the time spent to create ads and optimize, but THEN I charged a 10% of Ad Spend. If they want you to mange spending $50/day for ads, do the math.)

Problem is, if their budget is low, I like to call these clients "ride-a-longs". Meaning, they can ride along with your journey on marketing them at a cost that they can afford... Their results will be slow because their budgets will be low, and they will either continue to use you or leave you. Point is, if the clients budget is low then you should tell them that upfront... Don't feel like you have to accept every client, you are smart. You're a member of BHW.

Email Marketing in 2019 - Cost: Depends

This is not needed, but highly recommended. I know its 2019 and you're asking yourself "who sends emails in 2019". In my eyes, the new email marketing is now Push Notifications. (If used correctly) But, if you are not that advanced yet, you can still benefit from the data you collect. Go to fiver, pay someone to create some email templates for anyone who either does not decide to work with you, or if they got to your page, filled out their information, and when you contacted them, no answer. Don't be bummed out, set up your website with a email marketing service and use the funnel. Have an email automatically be sent 3 days from the inquiry. You should contact them ASAP when you get their contact info btw. But if you have this retargeting automatized email method set up, it is one less thing you need to worry about when it comes to following up with clients.

CONCLUSION:

This concludes the SMMA Tips for BHW Members. There are many other helpful guides out there, so be sure to check them out as well. This was just how I did it and what worked for me. If you are going to be using any information provided in here, let me know! I really appreciate the feedback as I truly enjoy writing these.

Good read.
+1
For the Ad Campaign guide, are you wanting it towards how a SMMA would get leads? Also, thanks for the comment. Took a lot of thought in this one... Hope it helps!

Would add a CRM in the mix if you’re handling clients. Hubspot offers a free one without any artificial limitations.

And if you’re prospecting/digging throug LinkedIn to find clients you could try Dux-soup.

Good one. Thanks!

That or a guide in general for "best practices". PPC guides are rare here.

:)

Perfect. I would love to create one and explain how I did it. Thanks for the suggestion! That thread will be started on Feb 15th! Its marked in the calendar!

Very good! Bookmarked!!

Thank you! Glad it helped

The CRM was mentioned, but I did not use the word CRM. When gathering impressions data.. (Email Form), you can integrate a plugin or app that will automatically send the emails to your leads. Is this what you were suggesting or something different?

Thanks. Something I’m a bit unclear in what I’m trying to get across. Let’s blame it on being a non-native writer.

What I meant is more applicable in the prospecting phase. Finding leads, and then applying the method that you share here. Before we can do anything, we’ll need somebody to do it for. If that makes any sense.

Read, ta.
Spyfu looks interesting.
The tool is amazing. You can look at competitor previous CPC campaigns ran by Google. You can see what they were bidding, best performing ads, and so much more..

Glad you found some value! What niche are you in?

I earn out of real world biz tech consulting but I have a passion for music promotion and I am seeing if what I use to make money for tech can work for music which means I am Grade A certifiably demonstrably out of my mind :-)
