All are doing link building, to increase their inbound links or backlinks. Spending lots of money on that.

Similarly are you doing onpage optimization also, i.e. optimizing title, KW, sitemap, robot.txt etc. or are you leaving that to Search Engine itself.

I have heard both are important

Just curious to know about how you do it. :)

yep.i try concentrating on H1,h2 and h3 tags.In between each header tags, there should be atleast a single paragraph. And all the header tags should not the same keyword phrase - instead you need to use LSI for better rankings.

To find LSI keyword for a particular keyword, use this syntax in google:

    ~buy = > a tilde followed by the KEYWORD

the LSI keywords for BUY are shop, sale etc,. so include these keywords too in h2 and h3.

    hope that helped.

I am getting same result using `buy and buy. I think I have understood it wrong.

Man how will you immerse paragraph in h1, it will be quite large in pages.

If we use LSI KW in tags and if it is not available in content, there will exist a problem right.

    Thanks for the information.

Its free if you have enough knowledge in this area.

of course. On site is a samll part of SEO, but still very important. If your on site is way off, its could be holding you back in a big way.

I have been working on large ecommerce sites for the past year or so. Large as in 25,000 products or more. The majority of the sites use a tricked out version of magento, but as with any CMS, on-page optimization can be a bitch. Also, optimizing 25,000 pages is just not practical.

I have a team in India that we use for development and also for repetitive tasks. In order to have them work on a project, the steps need to be documented in a simple format that anyone can just pick up and follow. So I have them do what I call the 4 step optimization.

The majority of the site content is dictated by the product feed that is uploaded into the site, so things like Meta info, short and long descriptions, etc are decided in a column of a spreadsheet.

When you have too many pages to optimize or the benefit is not big enough to justify the time, create a system to:

    1. Put the keyword first in the title tag
    2. Put 3 or 4 keywords after it that are either an application that is related to the keyword, or the category the keyword falls into. (this rule works for most products)
    3. H1 Tag with the keyword
    4. Body text with keyword
    5. A link or two with keyword in the anchor text

I know this is no ideal, but on-site SEO is still extremely important.

We just launched a 35,000 page website, new domain, no links, all of the organic traffic is coming from the onsite SEO and recently, shopping feeds. Even though I have been doing this since 1996, this situation really drove home that on-site SEO cannot be ignored. Systemized maybe, but not ignored.

I believe that a page can be optimized to be "good enough" in under 2 minutes.

    Hope you're all doing well.

It's still good to do some basic on-page SEO (title, keyword meta tags, h1, etc.). But it's not as relevant as it once was. More important (at least for now) is the optimization of your off-page strategies.

thats true, thanks man. I will keep all words in mind.

    @ BuzzKill

Thankyou very much for a descriptive post, I will get good informations from this.

You cannot go and optimize 1000+ pages thats true, but its always good to optimize atleast up to 2 levels of sites. Nice to know that you have a team in India.

I am afraid I need more than some minutes for onpage as I am a starter.

    Thank you

I think on page is still relevant, if you a competitor and he is having a similar site as yours, equal in weightage in all things except on page optimization. You competitor will be above your head for sure. Its my opinion. Also spider is a program not a human, it will understand if you do some onpage optimization better.

Both are important in my view. I think both are benefitted to your site's well being.

    Thank you :)

I think on site optimization is very important, and i know many sites with a lot of quality backlinks are going down and dissapear in a good competition just because their content is not keyword optimized

Thats great. Both are important inorder to achieve success.

Thats true man, but I have seen many sites which is not even Keyword Optimized but due to popularity that site have good pagerank.

But guys, I think these days google gives less than 5% weightage to onpage optimization.

    Thank You....
