The song has always haunted me. So the other night, I'm watching episodes of "Battlestar Galactica" and in one episode several people keep hearing pieces of a song in their head and they all come together seemingly by random chance in an isolated part of the ship and they start talking about hearing this song and collectively they come to the realization that it's "All Along the Watchtower". In case you don't know, Battlestar Galactica is about the last remains of the human race fleeing across space from "The Cylons" which are artificially created sentient life, aka "machines" or "robots".

The episode ended with a version of the song I've never heard before, and it had that certain "haunting" quality that has special resonance with me, but in a completely different way. And now I'm wondering how many OTHER ways it can resonate, and also if maybe other people have the same perception that I do.

There's just something about it. Here's my first entry, I think the most popular that most people are familiar with.

You're freaking me out Dude. NEVER saw the new BSG series. Love re-runs of the old ones. Was just about to watch the pilot episode of the new online and decided to peek in the lounger first. Dafuq? lol

And this one can still make me cry:

It's called "The God of Immaculate Timing".

Dude seriously, this song has been playing in my head as well at random times.

I will always have parts of the song play and then fade out, its very interesting.

I just now unexpectedly found the original soundtrack from the episode mentioned in the OP. I hated the original series. You don't have lights inside the helmet. You can't see anything then. How stupid. I refused to willingly suspend my disbelief for this reason, and never watched the show.

I watched 7 consecutive episodes until 3:00 a.m. The new BSG (2004) is like crack. Or like cotton candy. Or Chinese food. Yeah, it's like eating Chinese, then having cotton candy for dessert, and then smoking some crack. Just like that.

Oh yeah, and I smoked a hookah for the first time that night. Did a BSG marathon while smoking mint-flavored tobacco from a Hookah imported from Qatar, brought back by a warrior-woman when she was stationed there. I lost my Hookah virginity that night. Still waiting for my Official Recognition of Achievement from the government. As I think of it, smoking a Hookah is also like watching BSG, so maybe there is something happening here, but what it is ain't exactly clear.

This one is exactly the kind of thing I was looking for:

By far, the best. Such grace, and precision. The beauty of German culture, done "hillbilly style".

Lol at this dude throwing out a mix on the wheels of steel while his mum is doing the ironing

The song relates to witchcraft google "Watchtower" Wicca card also very well implemented in the film "Watchmen"

Updated Battlestar Galactica is one of the finest scifi series ever made. And please, don't include things like that young Superman or Jericho: if it doesn't have flying spaceships in every episode,
it ain't real scifi :)

It 's a great song indeed! This is a version I 've been very fond of :)

@B. Friendly: Thanks for the quartet version :o

Oh yea, Clapton is the tits. I have an original mid-1970s poster of him live on stage. He's one of my favorites

The obsession continues. It's still in my head. Like an alien life form, waiting. Waiting for something.

JazzC, what do you think of this?

Eric Johnson did a nice version of "All Along The Watchtower". For most of his performance,
he stays pretty much true to the Hendrix version, but pay close attention to the last minute
or so when he rips into his own licks . . . Smokin' Baby! :)

Cheers! - "Wiz"
