Don't do it man. Alienware is way too overpriced. You're much better off building your own PC if you're looking for a gaming/video editing rig. The price/performance of Alienware is awful. It's all aesthetics over function with that brand. Shop around a bit if you're looking for mobility, otherwise build your own desktop and make it badass (Haswell I7, GTX 780, etc).

alienware is for gamers on the go 
The only way it's worth it is if your a hobby gamer that wants to go to LAN Parties with his own gear which means you're basically a rich n00b since godly gamers play on sponsored rigs. Other than that... it's big, heavy and hotter than a lightsaber ... not really a laptop but more of a 'lightweight' PC.
If you really want something powerful and cool and expensive as sh1t try the Razer Blade which almost like a MacBook Air for gamers... bang/buck it's still as crappy as any overpriced electronic device made in China so you're good on that front

alien is garbage I had a Hp that out preformed a Alienware on any given day.
I have just received mine, with the following specs (replacing my Macbook Pro 17")
17" R5 4800
32GB Ram
GTX 780
256 mSata Cache for storage
2x 256gb Samsung Pro SSD in Raid 0
I can tell you, this is not garbage, It is a damn fast machine and keeps up with my 5.1ghz gaming machine (not in the 3D mark scoring), but everything else its just as fast.
I'll admit it's overkill, but my online business pays for this comfortably, plus building machines has been a hobby for 25 years.
If it is for home use, build a PC, if you are working in an office, get the alienware.

I have some experience of them and they are very good machines.
But if you are after video editing you are better going with a quadro card (which you can get in laptops).
If they aren't available under the Alienware brand, I'm sure dell do them in their dell range.

I was going to get one a few years ago just before Dell took them over, after they did, I decided against it.
I am not a Gamer but the Wife and Son are.
Will be buying 3 high end machines around Springtime, so might have another look at them but I think you can find higher spec machines for the same price.

They are great if you like Dell computers and the problems that Dell seems to perpetually have.

thought about buying Alienware but later changed my mind and thinking now of buying Macbook Air

I read this same suggestion on some sites, while doing my research on alienware. Problem is idk all of that techy crap. I'll have to learn it all. I'll have to go that route.

I don't want a desktop though. Laptop is the best choice for me. I am into creating videos and need a fast machine that won't keep me from rendering videos at a steady pace.

That's the thing, I try to be different. Not like the world. Apple products are played out already. Everyone has an apple product even though they can barely afford it.
I've never seen someone with alienware.

Just realized they're a subsidiary of Dell too. I'll admit the design is wicked but, it wouldn't be unheard of for 80% of the price just being for the bells and whistles.

If those laptops are made for gaming than it should have no problems rendering videos quickly.

But then... Living about 10 miles from the Dell facility, I might be a little biased. Dell computers have a very bad reputation due to the 80 percent failure rate with the Optiplex series.
Failure rate from the Alienware is lower, but after the problems that Dell has continued to have with their production facilities, I would rather not take the chance.
