Does one need to get custom clearance of products ordered from Alibaba by himself or the alibaba agents get that done? There is contradictory information from sellers. If any fellow indian can assist then would be grateful.

Interested in this as well. I am scared to order from there these days, thinking it won't clear customs. Any input on this (please mention your state as well, if possible) is very much appreciated.

I am personally planning to order electronic stuffs related to sbc (for example raspberry pi hats).

Depends on the shipping method. There are some seller's private shipping methods and then there are reputed ones like Amex, Fedex etc. If you choose the latter then you'll get your package for sure. You need to pay the duty yourself though as far as I know. Sellers don't handle that. Their price does not include any kind of local taxes.
PS. I have not ordered in the past 2 years though. Specially during this covid mess and after India-china clashes at the border. Indian authorities did create problems while clearing chinese cargo last year but I think that's no longer a problem. Do wait for someone who actually ordered recently though.

Isn't it illegal to order something from China? (As i remember recent ban in all Chinese things like PUBG and other bans)

I have the same question lol. Is it? Anybody ordered and got their stuff after the lockdown?

P.s. as for the exact question, I used to order from there with china post. I got my products everytime through india post. Only had to pay customs duty once, for a mobile phone I ordered. For that, the india post guy who came to deliver the percel collected the money from me, and gave me a receipt. Before delivery, I got a notice from customs dept (on my shipping address) saying I need to pay customs duty.

I have no problems paying the duty. Just want to make sure I actually get the product delivered.

Lol. A ton of electronic components and pharma APIs are imported from china.
India has not banned imports from China.

You'll get your products for sure. I'm not sure how does it work with private shipping methods but companies like FedEx will call you to their office to collect the import duty.

Btw if it's not for personal use and you intend to import something for commercial purposes then you need to get an IEC code.

The Express methods like by Fedex is costing me very high. Only shipping by Sea is viable and thats what I want to know about.

True. Plus the fact that it is our idiot customs dept that take majority of the time. It doesn't make sense to buy with good shipping company as it will be late anyway.

I don't know if India has it but I use freight forwarders when i order from alibaba. I basically have alibaba supplier ship it to the freight forwarder's warehouse in china. Then I pay a fixed fee to the freight forwarder to bring the package to my doorstep. I don't have to deal with customs and etc.

Using freight forwarders is a great idea. Communication is the key here. Making them understand anything in English is a task.
But I think using freight forwarders is going to add to the cost in this case as there's no way we are going to evade customs duty here in India.

That's the whole point of going with freight forwarders... They have special arrangements with the customs.

The shipping fee is calculated per cbm. Fixed rates for you. It comes out way cheaper than fedex, dhl, ups. I've been burned by the 3 a lot of times since they pay custom duties tax on your behalf + storage fees.

Was this ordered recently? I mean in 2021. Also if you don't mind me asking, which state are you in? :)

Pretty sure it was AliExpress and not Alibaba. You don't find a lot of products with MOQ as 1 unit on Alibaba. And if you do they charge a bomb for shipping.

When you Bought Anything from Alibaba or any other Websites like amazon or so . Then there is always an Custom charges which You have to Bare For Import Products to India and Mostly there are Huge Charges on Electronics Products.

And if we talk about the Custom duty that can be anywhere around 10% to 200% its Depand upon which Product you bought :)

Alibaba and Alixpress are banned in India. You can't do pay for the stuff, it will decline
