I started using this about 4 days ago and I was in the 2,3 million on alexia and now I am at 1,7 million I am not using the refresh IP I just setup 3 taps with my blog pages and mark them as my homepage and each time I start FF up it should count as a hit. It works

What sort of ranking could I get from doing this?
I just want to lower my alexa so my AM doesn't get suspicious that I'm making $150 from a cloaked site with a very high Alexa rank (and no PR)

The Alexa protocol is far more detailed to make this really work for any site worth more than a few dollar.
Alexa checks useragent (browser, os etc), alexa toolbar version, number of sites you visited, delay between visits, a generated session id and more.
There would be no reason to use such a detailed protocol if they'd not regulary test their ranks for fakers.
But it is true, the MAIN factor of alexa is the unique IP.
A secret for free: you need about 800 unique IPs to be able to gain a rank of 999,999.
I do not know how alexa handles obviously faked rankings, but I'd not risk a ban faking a ranking that way if the site you want to be boosted is a long-term investment.
If you just need a high boost for a short time, why not.

Autosurf Traffic is an unbelievably effective way to up alexa rank!!!
One of my sites gets around 25-35K a week.... Alexa says almost 500,000/week. WTF
I don't mind. Just makes my websites look way more valuable... I don't actually try to manipulate alexa just a result of using autosurf. I would certainly recommend using autosurf traffic to anyone looking for fast and massive alexa rank increases! Another way to up it is by getting the alexa toolbar and visiting your site more often.

i agree alexa is crap. last i heard their user base was mostly asian. but any metric that is decent will be correlated to google or any other SE. so a good alexa will mean a better google. goes without saying. if alexa is that stupid though, i am doubting if they matter at all.
Justone is absolutely correct. The OP's method will definitely not work. Alexa is slightly more difficult to hack than that and, considering how people throw around how "easy" it is to fake rankings, it's actually more difficult than people think.
But ignoring all that for a moment: Has anyone noticed how Alexa haven't updated their stats since Dec 4? Seriously. No NEW stats have been taken into account since that date. What's going on??

I did try the above method for a while on 3 sites but not sure if the results show positive or not really as 2 increased and the one that gets more traffic went down. That could of course be because the one that went down was in a more competitive higher ranked position. Thanks anyways i will try for another week and see what happens.
It was suggested in another thread that people should include the Alexa Traffic Widget to help get your traffic rank higher. I tested it and I can say that it does work. All I did was launch a site and did the basic promotion to get it indexed and installed the code for the widget. In a month and a half it has went from 18 million to 12 million.
Now obviously the 12 million still blows but when you see it jump 6 million spots for a site that gets a few visitors a week, you can see the potential for installing it on a site you are developing to flip. So maybe add this to your site before attempting Optic's suggestion?
