I had to call my pharmacy as my Doctor suggested I get a couple of things and I had to set an appointment to do so.

The pharmacy, a big chain in the USA, uses AI to handle the calls.

It took me 6 minutes to get them to send me a link to set an appointment, when it would have been 30 seconds if I connected with a human.

If you're using AI for customer service, and you probably should, don't do what they do.

AI is widely used nowadays, but still terrible. I don't know if they're doing this on purpose, but what is for the civil people is pure trash. Maybe in the intel or military niches, or for someone with a really hefty budget, there is something much better (it should be), but what we have is really bad.

the funny part is these large companies use Ai to shorten their talk time expenses and in the end it ends up costing them more

I don't after today.

The prompts they require to get to the end issue/need are not always how people think or verbalize.

I punched myself in the face so many times during that call I disfigured myself so that I actually look good now.

God knows how much they paid their LLM Prompt Engineer, and he failed.

For example, in my poor country, tons of services started using AI for customer support, ALL of them fail at training their own LLM. I have a feeling they just added OpenAI API key and basic instructions instead of making their own LLM based on their own database of previous chats (before AI).
 
After 10 years of ai people will be saying water is for toilets and brawndo has what plants need instead.

The first time I actually heard about AI being used for calls was in inbound sales for service businesses like plumbing, HVAC

Even back then (just a few months ago) I already had the feeling it could be doing more harm than good.
These businesses spend so much on ads and when a potential client finally calls, it’s an AI that answers instead of a real person : D

Just like OP said, you shouldn’t run away from it but you need to know where and how to implement it properly.
It’s still much better suited for chat support : )
