This video explains it...

Never used AI in my entire life, and never will.... and I still struggle with critical thinking quite often, so imagine if I let the AI do the thinking for me, I would successfully become a full-fledged moron :D

Anyway, enjoy watching!

Oh, and by the way, if the video doesn't load for you either just download it and watch it offline. But beware that around the 3 minute mark there's a paid promotion segment that lasts until 3:59 I believe, so if you start seeing the ad (about Incogni), just skip to 3:59 and the video will resume

Last week my roommates returned from a trip. I couldn't go because of an emergency. They came back, used ChatGPT to "settle" the dues (who spent on what, who's owed what). Made the payment among themselves and went quite.

Until I checked the messages (I am on the group chat). It was so wrong, my mind was blown.

Total trip expense was about $1600 and the guy who spent the least was supposed to receive money. And he did. The guy who made the flight and hotel bookings and spent about $700 still "owed" $100 to others. And these dumb idiots made all those payments and never thought to themselves what they are doing.

I mean the biggest spender spent $800 on a $1600 trip and didn't stop to think once.

Starts at 2:34 :D

It's a nice study. Only one thing comes to mind: "If you don't use it, you'll lose it". It's the same for the human brain. The more we depend on LLMs for critical thinking, the more we are going to suffer as humanity in the long run.

I'm not surprised, and I'm sorry to hear it, believe it or not!

I forgot where it starts, but thanks for the update!

And yeah, we're slowly, unconsciously (but by design) heading towards non-existence. Someone or something really hates humans, and wants the planet ridden of them :(

The most intelligent species on the planet outsourced intelligence :anyway:
I know it was sarcasm, but I don't think the really intelligent people use AI, they already know the dangers. The problem is that the masses are getting even more dumbed down, the intelligent ones (the ethical vs non-ethical ones) will fight among themselves for saving / destroying the humanity while the humanity itself gets vanquished.

Again, I know that you were being sarcastic and I have no problem with it (I am sarcastic too a lot of times), but this time it worries me :)

The least spender just knew the correct chatgpt commands well. lol

I try to use AI for some academic stuff I was working last year. When, for example, the resultS for 2+2 were 3, 5, 8 (there were bigger numbers, exact years and stuff, essential data on short), I tried to get rid of it. So, at least in this context, use it, but double check it.

Intelligent people can still use AI for simplifying tasks. I've used ChatGPT to write code for an android app within 2 weeks that would've taken me 2 months without it. We can use AI for short-term gains and filling the gaps, but I won't recommend it as a replacement for human intelligence.

As someone said, we should make AI do laundry for us while we write books but not make AI write books while we do laundry. If AI takes over creative things and we restrict ourselves to menials tasks, then we become dumber over time.

People who can do basic math are going to regarded as geniuses in not so distant future.
100%

And I've addressed this very same thing a few months ago but I've been put down for daring to pull people out of their comfy ignorance, so I had to concede for the sake of keeping it polite and not break the forum's rules...

Oh well, when I die I will have my consciousness clean knowing that I've done my part in building a better world for everyone, but there's also that saying that goes like "you can't gift unwanted gifts to people as they'll throw them away", so yeah... to each their own. I will keep bringing awareness as long as the mods / forum rules permit to what's happening to us, but whether people wake up to the reality is up to them ultimately :(

A lot of things are going wrong lately, We've become so used to copying and pasting that we barely take time to proofread anymore.
It’s like we’re getting too lazy to even think critically, let alone double-check our own work.

This greatly reminds me of that post before from a social media talking about how you can tell the people from a hundred years ago are way more intellectual just by reading how deep their letters are to each other. Now, with AI, I dont think people think that much or use their brain that much as before.

There are lot people out there that can't even read or write. The majority of humanity are going through reverse evolution ,getting dumber
