My thoughts on AI-generated images and their role in content creation. With AI tools making it easier than ever to generate unique visuals, many of us are debating whether to use AI images or stick with royalty-free images from sources like Unsplash, Pexels, or paid stock photo sites.

One of the key factors that often gets overlooked with AI-generated images is invisible watermarking. Companies like OpenAI, Google, and Adobe are embedding digital watermarks into AI-generated visuals. These watermarks aren’t visible to the naked eye, but they can be detected by AI systems, making it easier to track AI-generated content.

What Does This Mean for Content Creators?

  1. Detection & Transparency : As AI-generated images become more common, platforms like Google and social media sites might start flagging or de-prioritizing them in search results. If you're using AI art in your blog or marketing, it could impact visibility, which is confusing to me because AI generated content ranks.
  2. Legal & Copyright Issues : While AI-generated images are largely considered public domain (depending on the platform), there’s always a risk of copyright concerns. Some companies claim ownership over the AI-generated work you create using their tools. I want to find a work around for this. I feel if I created the image then I should be able to claim ownership over it. If I were to use a pencil to create a piece of art, the company does not have the legal right to claim it all because I used their product.
  3. Brand Authenticity – AI images can be hyper-realistic or stylized, but they may not always align with your brand’s authenticity. Some audiences might prefer real-world photography over AI-generated visuals.
  4. Ethical Considerations – With AI art, there’s an ongoing debate about fair use and whether these images borrow too much from existing artwork. If AI images become the norm, it could reduce the demand for real photographers and artists.
  5. Watermarking & AI Identification – Tools are emerging that can detect AI-generated images, even when they seem indistinguishable from real photos. This could become a problem for bloggers, website owners, and businesses if platforms start regulating AI content more strictly.

What’s the Best Approach?

How do you approach AI-generated images within your content and marketing campaigns? Do you prefer third-party sources such as Pexels or are you creating your own digital images through AI?

watermarking AI images can be dealt with - take screenshot, use converters, don't publish as-is.
as for copyright - it is a tricky topic. I haven't figured out this one yet. my guess is to use wikimedia commons images as a seed. but this can also yield some issues with the law in some jurisdictions.
