Copilot, AI PC, AI laptops, AI AMD, Intel, Nvidia, Snapdragon. Everything must be fckin AI
... and normal user will not even touch what AI is.
Starting from new few updates, in next few weeks, Windows 10 will collect data to train Copilot AI for Windows 11
The new update is not optional.

Sometimes I think to switch to Linux to run from these corporations, but then I remind myself the pain of using this. Linux is for people who like fix their PC for fun.
Then we have Microsoft and this whole AI shit, but Apple is not better. Soon they will have own Recall

Luckily I've never in my life purchased windows os, AHH Linux is no better.

There are other Linux distros tho, some not to bad twister os

There are windows os's out there also called windows minimal, or vanilla, stripped with all the nonsense.

Problem with Linux is it’s not a full-fledged operating system like MS or MacOS. There is this strange idea that something being open source or linux based means that it automatically becomes both secure or pro-privacy. But how many can really say they know how to audit source code and packages themselves to test these things? And building your own linux based OS is far easier said than done for most people.

And if you look at the privacy policies of Linux distros they always seem so obscure. Even if it was quite concrete installing any package could see it all go to shit, again because it’s not an operating system.

It's simply how's the world will be running from now on, better adapt,
That's nothing compared to the AI robots revolution that's going to happen in the next century

Everything on the internet or software leaves a footprint.

Doing stuff offline can be saved and sent to some server with some speed when being online.

BTC is another example of how quick the market is already taken over by huge corporations.

There is no freedom, and no way to be free by using the system.

You have to consume the system, or reverse happens.

New kids, maybe 2008+ will probably have prompt courses of year or two and become masters at things people struggled to learn for years.

And 2020+ kids won't have other job positions than machine hardware.

Everything we know can be automated right away (no human touch), it's just not profitable at this point.

its nothing new they're just being transparent about this one application.... absolutly everyi event you make is being recorded for "user experiance" which to some degree is true

Yeah truth is hefty ML projects have been around since the late 70s at least but were reserved for miliitary and government research and innovation before it dripped it’s way in to the commercial markets. Who knows what kind of data governments, enterprise and private niche companies have on people, even before ‘big tech’ hype really began over the past two years or so. I’ve heard of some pretty mind-blowing stuff but most of it is reserved for and available only to government agencies even to this day.

"AI" Word is everywhere because it seems that really boosts sales or at least catches people attention.
And yes, 99% do not even know what AI is or how its made or that its been around for several years.

For OS, linux is indeed more safe and privacy oriented but it was not made for being used with GUI. Yes now it's easier to use etc. but the reality is that an average user cannot get all the benefits, and plus not the fancy UI other OS can offer.

The reality is: you have no chance of being safe or private without being an expert in the field, but this is a more general problem:
think of doctors: you have no chance to heal yourself from a less-known desease without being a expert, so you have to trust what doctors says.

Morale: try not to be uneducated in the fields you dont want to trust other people's/organizations knowledge.

Linux problem:
1. Most of Linux users are telling you don't need terminal
2. After you install Linux, your hardware is not working, software is not working
3. You are looking for help and you come to stack. You copy some terminal commands and you fix your stuff
4. But in 30% cases these terminal commands are outdated. You are asking for help and you hear: "Fck you I am using Linux for 30 years I am guru"
5. Then you uninstall Linux when you realize, that you spent last 4 days for some bullshit terminal instead on your project

Windows 11 is vomit inducing.

It ALMOST grew on me when I was alternating a lot between my PC and Laptop (has win 11), but it's just unbearable at times.

It also has multiple unfixed annoying bugs that are UI based. The Microsoft staff commented on a couple of them saying "Everything is functioning properly, these are visual bugs".

I'd rather use an etch-i-sketch than Windows 11.

GPT is the best thing I've ever seen in recent decades.
General task automation and reasoning are made possible with the help of GPT.

AI bubbles are everywhere in Tech but AI itself is not a bubble.

I understand, but I really don't need AI CPU doing job 5x slower than RTX 3060 or RTX A200.
Then I don't need "AI" shit from Microsoft called "Recall", to remind I was watching small tits porn one year ago or to tell me what is my password to banking app.
This is not AI people will use. Most of people use PC to consume media, they also don't need hiper super power AI laptop slower than non AI PC 2 years ago.

... and they push these "AI" features to system. Microsoft is first but Apple was sad and they are working on own Recall.
I need system only to run software, not to think for me and eating my data without permission.

Miss windows 7, it wasn't perfect but did the job, windows 10 is better than nothing, but you gotta gut the bloatware and in doing so you don't get updates.

The updates are not what they use to be.

Win2k -> XP -> 7 -> 10, 4 solid OSes in that order. I'll be sticking to 10 although I do miss 7. 10 was enough of a compromise, no way I'm "upgrading" to something even worse. As if 11 wasn't bad enough I bet 12 or "Windows AI" or whatever they call it in the future is going to dumb people down even more. As if smartphones weren't bad enough in dumbing down an entire new generation of people.

I totally see where you are coming from with your opinion on Linux systems, but it isn't like that anymore. The linux user base has grown a lot in recent years and with that , we started to see consistent efforts by the Linux distro developers to come up with solutions that are tailored not only for "power users" but also regular users. Depending on the software that you need on your system, you can have a very stable expeirence with a Linux distro.

As an example, a friend of mine who is very "tech illiterate" recently got an old Thinkpad. He asked me to install an OS on it and to perform the initial setup ready for him to use. I installed Fedora 40 on it (XFCE), firefox and libreoffice. He's still using this system without a single problem after 3 months. I just had to teach him how to upgrade via terminal (although there's a GUI option for that) and he's still doing that every week :)

But yes, if your use case is a bit more complex than the one i described in my example, you might need to tinker around a bit and possibly break some stuff. But , for that (and now picking up on the initial AI topic), here's a little secret: GPT-4/Claude3Opus is AMAZING at linux system troubleshooting/administration tasks.

If the world is moving towards AI, you cannot escape it. It will not only be limited to your computer, mobiles will also be impacted.

Yo man, I can agree about your filling for Linux if it was 2004; nowadays, Linux OSs(plural) can be for anyone; you can start with something easy like mint.
It's easy to use for Windows users because of its good GUI interface (practically a desktop, as you know from your beloved win), but it's a hugely stronger OS!

Yeah, automated surveillance doesn't sound too compelling to me either. I still think trading some comfort for peace of mind is worth it and even slightly liberating. Although in the grand scheme of things makes no difference

yeah, companies still trying to push AI in useless things, soom they get AI in calculators, so you can get fast calculation times and that can recognize your voice to make mathematical operations :alien: my point is that are trying to make peoplemore lazy than they currently are.
