Ahrefs vs Moz

Im looking at websites domain authority and page authority using both ahrefs and moz toolbars and notice that sometimes they differ quit a bit. Now I know these metrics are to be taken with a pinch of salt but what would you suggest is the better to use to gauge more accurate stats on a website before I go digging more i'm also using these stats to see what blog sites are worth reaching out to for a nice backlink.

metrics are usually the same unless they have not been updated. Also, domains beginning with www and those without www also differ.
 
I wouldn't stress the metric differences too much. If you're seeing good metrics on either one then most likely the domain/page is powerful as long as the metrics aren't just inflated by spam. Usually the discrepancy is more with the crawl data. So if you're seeing good metrics on Moz and not ahrefs or vice versa its most likely because Moz found more URL's to the links that ahrefs hasn't found yet.
 
Ok understand im just making a spreadsheet now with websites on but I have cells with Moz DA and PA and Ahrefs DR and UR and I am trying to take out 1 or the other to make the spreadsheet more easily digestible for me and my mate to read so in your opinion say you were looking for websites to team up with what metrics if you had to out of these two ahrefs and moz would you use. It's quite amusing that you guys take Moz seriously, they update their index so slow I could have a PR3 while it still shows links that died months ago, as well as taking a HUGE amount of time to pick up new links. Ahrefs crushes Moz. Majestic is okay to get a general guideline of how sites are ranking and their approx metrics but they are still 3rd party.
 
Hey,guys I'm interested to see if anybody saw good comparison reviews of such tools, as well as your own thoughts (back your thoughts up with more than just "I like it", please :)
 
Ahrefs.

Moz is really outdated with backlinks and seems to be more prone to spam.

I've noticed that as well. I have a site that had a Domain Authority of about 25 drop to 8 not too long ago. It still has the same backlinks, ranks for the same keywords, but when I checked what backlinks Moz was picking up, it looks like they left nearly all of them out. Majestic at least picks up half the backlinks.

I've been trying out Ahrefs lately and they seem to have better metrics than Moz at the moment, but I still need to test them out some more.
 
I think MOZ has a slight edge over Ahrefs, in terms of metrics.
 
Not a fan of Ahrefs, Moz is better IMHO for OP's needs. You can get 30-days of Moz on Fiverr for $5 too.
 
Hmm now I am torn between the two even though I use them both but need to use one for spreadsheet. Im learning more towards ahrefs as I have subscription with them and the data is solid for backlinks so I have to presume the DR and UR to be quite accurate with their algorithm.

This is like being stuck on a island for 5 days without food and then being offered a monster triple stacked burger or a huge kebab :D

Personally I'm another for ahrefs. They tend to see more links than Moz whenever I have used both to check a domain and as a result I'd consider their metrics more reliable as they are pulling from a wider data set.

That being said, don't stress it too much over this. The answers in this thread alone show that you will be fine using either. The important thing is to be consistent - use one and stick with it when comparing.
 
In my opinion Ahrefs is better because Ahrefs does a better job finding backlinks than Moz. Moz tends to be months behind finding backlinks and their index is woefully incomplete compared to Ahrefs. As a result I'd trust any metric from Ahrefs more than I would any metric from Moz because in my opinion Ahrefs has more complete data backing their metrics.
 
I think these metrics should just give you an idea, using all major crawlers to figure things out would be the only solution.
 
Yes i'm going with ahrefs to leave on spreadsheet as I must admit their data seems solid when going through site explorer etc. But will use a combination when sniffing round competitors domains and looking for websites to reach out to but for metrics on spreadsheets going to just leave in ahrefs metrics to get rid of some columns. Thanks Guys
