Ahrefs Vs Moz Vs Majestic

Interesting case study I read earlier this morning, thought I'd share this.

Thanks for the share. I also use Ahrefs mostly, but take some metrics from Majestic and MOZ into consideration, too.

This is not new for anyone in the domains business. Thats why DA and TF are mostly useless - when Moz and Majestic did not have all the links those metrics are not showing the real strength of the domain/website.

Ahrefs is superior, no argument there. But it's too limiting if you want to process bigger batches of domains at once. If they were to improve their bulk uploader, then I would be considering switching to Ahrefs completely. That plus some kind of topical flow.

Majestic are actually usually faster to catch up new links, the problem however is that they did not catch them all. Like you have 100 new links, in first week Majestic will find 20 of them and thats it while Ahrefs will take say 2 weeks before catching them, but will show you 70 of them.

DR is like the simplest metric ever. No secret at all - its counting only do-follow links (no-follow either give zero or insignificant boost to DR), links from higher DR gave more boost. Thats it. Ahrefs DR is good to find which domains are BAD (anything under 30 DR either have (almost) only no follow or no good links at all). I ignore everything under ~35 DR as there is rarely good links. However high DR doesn't necessarily means that the domain is good - there you have to manually evaluate all the links.

TF on the other hand make no sense at all. See for example this:

This domain is brutal do follow backlinks from 21 .edu RD (UK and US ones), natural, from articles, some are even homepage links. The boost in rankings this one gave is massive.

What Majestic thinks?:

11 TF. Are you fucking serious? People are ignoring such domains because they are looking for TF 15+, which is perfectly fine for me.

Another example:

world-research-institutes.org - not mine, just an example.

40+ real, natural .EDU RDs - TF 10. Again what the actual fuck? How this make any sense?

tldr: Majestic and Moz sux, Ahrefs rulezz.

Yeah 200 domains for bulk check is indeed not enough. However topical flow is ... crap. At least what Majestic is showing is most of the time hilarious. Just see what they show for their own website:

That seems like a massive difference. I would be surprised that Majestic had no info about a site like that. Did the guy check if Majestic crawlers had been blocked via robots.txt or some other means.

Topical trust flow is evaluated based on backlinks. If the site has spammy profile from all over the place, well, that's the result. Topics like "computers" tend to be used like "default" of Majestic can't determine TTF.

Still, that's the closest that you will get to at least somehow evaluating niches.

If you have a couple million domains to process a month, Ahrefs is simply limiting. Not to mention it's unbelievably overpriced for what it offers.

Interesting indeed. It would've been nice to have analysis of more than just one domain though. Although I'll admit I've seen my fair share of these cases where Majestic's TF makes absolutely no sense.

I have access to all 3 tools and most of the time rely on Ahrefs. Moz and Majestic use only to "confirm" Ahrefs, or when found some suspicious data... At the moment, Ahrefs is the king of the lab, confirmed, Period

Whatever that site is doing with the the scrolling behavior is annoying as all hell. Couldn't get passed that enough to find value in the article.
