Because they have separate crawlers. Ahrefs' is a lot faster and goes deeper.

Ahrefs' a better multi-purpose tool with better competitive edge over Majestic. Ahrefs crawler is a lot better over majestic.

Ahrefs has 2nd world's largest server resources. Thanks to that, he can crawl sites much better, than Majestic. Those 2nd tool mostly suc** imho, for example - in determining site topic in some countries.

Did you checked Majestic historic index ?
Let's check - then compare, you will be surprised.
Majestic determine topic (same as Google) from backlinks / linking pages, not from site content - as you think.
So, if any site have fake backlinks, the topic is usually wrong.
1) Ahrefs crawler even amateurs are able to block at iptables level. So, you see in Ahrefs only what they allow you to see.
2) Ahrefs it's product for the beginners which never will beat 2 products used by professionals: Majestic + Semrush for many reasons.

At first, Majestic have topics, which also is used by Google (aka topic distance)
For second, Majestic have trust metric, which also is used by Google (even in similar way)
For third, Majestic have the biggest link history data.
But Majestic haven't any keywords data.
And this is the place, where Semrush come into the action with the biggest keywords history data.
Semrush also have link data, but it's very poor.
Ahrefs have limited keywords data and haven't the topics and trust metric.
However when we consider the cost of Majestic + Semrush - Ahrefs is much cheaper but without very important metrics.
For the above reasons professionals use team Majestic + Semrush.

It’s just their crawl database. But I wouldn’t use majestic for that. I use majestic to check up trustflow of sites and ofc before getting backlinks, to check the topical trustflow.
For crawling and kw research I’d go with semrush.
I like to think SEO isn’t really guess work. Just use the right tools against your competitors and create superior content, better kw diversity, better content (topics that bloggers would be interested in reposting, that way it leads to organic backlinks).
You can get pretty far with those 2 tools. But depending on your goal, you will probably need a whole lot more SEO tools to get a real competitive advantage at understanding the competition and outranking them for competitive kwds.

I think both, Majestic and Ahrefs are excellent at finding backlinks. I’ve seen posts with examples of how both of their indexes leave SEMrush in the dust, sometimes finding 50% more links than SEMrush. As a result, both are more reliable to measure the quality of links, making Ahrefs Domain Rank (DR) and Majestic’s Trust Flow (TF) much more reliable than SEMrush’s authority metrics. There are SEO tasks that Majestic excels at, however.

Ahrefs hands down. Majestic just does not have enough server power to compete. Just look at the design, Ahrefs is being regularly updated, new features being added. Ahrefs guys are taking it much more seriously than Majestic.

By using Majestic after single look you know, if the site have right topic and trust (which don't have Ahrefs)
By just single look in few seconds you have a lot of informations about link flow without browsing few mil RD.
As you see on example, Ebay have the correct topic and trust, because don't have the fake backlinks.
Then another single look at Semrush:
In next few seconds you see how well this domain perform in Google from 2012.
Then compare it to your Ahrefs data.

Greg, because Ahrefs is amazing for keyword research just as good as SemRush. You want to find more content ideas with Ahrefs. You can find thousands of keywords for many niches.

At Semrush you have much much more possibilities than on Ahrefs, when it coming about keywords data.
Because you are able to find very simple keywords for the moment where any site started growing for the last 7 years.
For next example, you can find great keywords + ad title/desc for Adwords, where by "great" I mean good CPM + conversions.
But Semrush same as Ahrefs or Moz, don't have TTF TF - which is necessary to increase SEO effectivity.
And this is why Majestic is the tool which any SEO professional "must have".
Also I would like to clarify, that at any time when I write the "beginner" - I don't have on mind any worse person.
I have on mind just small point on the experience road.
Because years back, I was also the beginner, same as everyone who have years of experience behind self.
And still I am the beginner for example in marketing area.
Because no one is able to be a guru in each industry at the same time.

I had both of it and i like it none of it. I think travis seo is much better than those two. The SERP rankings are not accurate at all on Majestic. I still have travis but i also use Semrush. Rankings also wrong on semrush but i can do a lot of thinks with it.
