AHREFS to launch a General Search Engine.

Altavista and Netscape seemed imoveable, then IE and Google happened. MySpace felt like never ending, then came Facebook. Anything is possible, and there is a lot of hate in the media and from the public and governments for Google to fuel change.

Will it be Ahrefs? They are well placed to give it a go.

It's going to be a hell of a challenge and I don't think they'll make it, but boy, I've never seen a worst argument than someone trying very hard to make finding a domain for this as such big obstacle.

It's about branding, you just don't pick random words to create a brand.

If Microsoft can't beat Google in search, what makes people that Ahrefs can do it? Google is pretty much synonymous with search.

Google tried to beat Facebook in social networking and we all knew how it turned out.

Only way is if the US government breaks them up like it did with AT&T.

I don't like it when companies start losing focus on what makes them great. Hopefully they don't cannibalize their Ahrefs team for this, causing Ahrefs to go down hill and/or stop innovating.

It would easily run close to $1 billion in global advertising a year if not exceed it to compete with Google since Google is synonymous with search.

Given the number of politicians talking about that, I expect it's going to happen sooner rather than later.

Given the immense number of people using the internet, even 1% of the global market is a huge number.

Nobody is saying Ahrefs is going to replace Google overnight, but I'm sure the two college students never thought they would unseat multiple hundred-million-dollar companies as the #1 search engine.

They are in SEO Industry so they will gain more traction and people know the purpose of it so quality will be the biggest factor for them and they can bundle them with toolbars or any form of promotion which is lead but third party so they are in the right direction....

the one big reason shift may happen is due to Google's greed and filling its page with ads. A disruption in SE space is due and hopefully Ahrefs can be that disrupter. I have used duckduckgo, bing, yahoo etc. and would have shifted if they provided relevant results. If Ahrefs can provide relevant results will less ads, then they have some hope, but its a very very long shot for now.
