I think they might be good. I always use ahrefs they are very accurate with there backlinks.
 
This guy's tweets were filled with a lot of babbling and didn't really get his message across. Had you not mentioned that he's building a search engine, I wouldn't have deduced that.

Putting away the lyricism, what we plan to do is to launch a search engine with commitment to privacy and 90/10 profit share model, meaning 90% goes to content creators, leaving 10% for expenses and profit.

I agree - he went on a bit of a ramble in the middle, but the first tweet on that thread is "Ahrefs is working on a general purpose search engine".

I think the idea is great (90/10 rev share with content creators) but I don't see this being an easy feat to pull off successfully.

However, Ahrefs have insane amounts of data - and probably have a decent amount of resources to begin working on this so I'm really excited to see this progress into a working final product.
 
I'd like to see a good rival to Google

I'd like ahref plus seoclerk plus Moz plus other SEO agencies to team up and launch this site
 
This should have happened a long time ago. Everybody works their arses off writing content and providing for industries for the Google mechanism to roll in and just scrape it for free with no benefit to the real providers of knowledge. Were these content writers even asked? So their hobby basically turned into slavery in a game for rankings that Google always won.

If a search engine is to compete with them it needs to be backed by so so so so many influencers. The word 'Google' is now just something that rolls off of the tongue. 'Bing' just sounds like a lightbulb appeared above my head with an idea.
 
Interesting how the patient aspect will work. Google has so many but how can they prove ahrefs is even using them if they do copy them?
 
about time google felt the pain marketers fill with advertising loss .

i am 100% happy

real marketers don't use google for there traffic as there holding you hosatage with rules and updates

Ahrefs doesn't have the budget to be a serious contender.
I know they pissed off subscribers recently by dropping the offering mid way through a month and only telling clients after it had happened.

Follow Tim though for the news, he's less of one to babble along and is approachable as a person.

Ahrefs are the internets 2nd largest crawler after Google, they already have the information and infrastructure to create a search engine from their SEO tool and all they would have to knock together is an algorithm to actually rank the content. That's the easy part.

They are more than capable, they are a surprisingly big company in terms of revenue. The CEO/Founder Dmitry is a genius, one of the most knowledgeable people on the planet when it comes to crawling.

For comparison, Majestic have also build a search engine from their link data.
 
This is cool. I can see it working. Ahrefs might have enough resources to pull this off.

Dmitry is the real man behind Ahrefs. Tim is just a mouthpiece.

You need genius developers like Dmitry to pull this off. Also, the non-greedy business model helps a lot. Greed limits imagination and causes stagnation, as we can see from the Googles and Facebooks of the world.

If it is really good, they will find a way to spread the word. SEOs will be the first adopters and then it could go mainstream.
 
Although this seems crazy, it would be interesting to see how it pans out
