Ahrefs Site Data -

Maybe this is already known but I am seeing Ahrefs site traffic and DA-DR ratings way off from other data sites...for example, a site has either 385 organic hits a month or 10850...just a slight difference


don't get me started on their BS keyword difficultly tool which says a keyword has a KWD of 0 but is taken by SERPS with DR's of 90+, and other sites show the KWD of 50

thoughts?

Each tool site have their own metrics no one is perfect you need to check across various tools and draw your conclusions

Yup. Their estimated organic traffic and KW difficulty levels are absolute shite. However, you can check the trend of organic traffic for the past year and it will give a fair idea about how the site is performing. The organic keywords feature is pretty accurate. To comprehend the difficulty level of a KW you need to manually check the SERPs for that KW instead of blindly following a metric from a tool.

You would think for the amount of money they charge, they would do a better job...

No tool is going to be perfect. I use Ahrefs, Mangools and SE Ranking and it's rare that all three have similar numbers. I mainly use them to get a rough sense of what the landscape is for certain keywords, and a general comparison.

Ahrefs admittedly under-estimates traffic numbers. So I look at their numbers in relation to other sites. For instance, if my site is Site A, and I'm comparing it to competitors in Ahrefs—Site B, Site C, Site D. I'll look at the estimated traffic Sites B, C, and D are getting and compare it to what Ahrefs says mine is. The actual number isn't terribly important to me, but the numbers relative to each other are. For instance, if Ahrefs estimated organic traffic looked like this:
Site A (mine): 5.7K
Site B: 10.8K
Site C: 2K
Side D: 55K

The estimated traffic numbers themselves are less relevant to me than the fact that sites B and D get 2-10X more estimated traffic than me. Then you'd look at the keywords they're ranking for and their top pages to see where your missing gaps are.

But yeah, I wouldn't take the numbers any tools give you as Gospel. They're just estimates after all.

Those keywords and the website just sounds small, not significant enough to get regular updates by their crawlers. If you want the keyword data to be more precise, use the credits and update them manually. They just don't crawl all the small keywords regularly if at all because that wouldn't make sense to do so.

Yea this is the bain of the tech world, they want money for the service and then extra money for an accurate service, maybe they should charge extra for every login to...

ahrefs has a lot of incorrect and obsolete data.

it seems like they are just piling more and more data and don't remove incorrect or old data.

for example search for "best diet 2016" - this keyword still gets traffic according to their data.

It probably does, everyone needs data for their BS info-useless-graphic nonsense.

Credits are included in the subscription and should be plenty for personal usage. If they would constantly update all of the keywords there are, it would require insane resources. Just not worth it and the subscription cost for everyone would skyrocket just so that some people could see that their keyword doesn't have 10 but has 20 searches per month now.

Any keyword of value gets updated regularly, either by Ahrefs themselves or by other people who push manual updates.

If you want up to date data for any keyword, just update it.
