[Ahrefs/Majestic/etc] About backlinks

Hey BHW,

I've been learning about backlinks recently and this question arose: What kinds of backlinks does "crawler" sites like Ahrefs, Majestic and others display?

Do they display only 1st tier backlinks? What about 2nd tier and higher tiers?

That would be interesting to know as I can't find the answer anywhere. They only tell they display the site's backlinks but not if they display 2nd tier or higher..

Maybe a dumb question, but any help is appreciated!

Backlink counters will only display Tier 1 backlinks ie links pointing directly to the site you are investigating. Tier 2 and above are left out.

If you want to find your tier 2 links then you need to place your tier 2 website/s into Ahrefs or whatever backlink checker you use

If you want to see what kind of backlinks the first tier has you can easily do so by clicking on a magnifying glass beside the link. It will open up all the 2nd tier links ahrefs has crawled, you can dig as deep as the backlinks will go.

You can test it for yourself, ahrefs allows 3 queries per day for free if you are not a member.

Thanks BHW!

I asked this because I have seen blogs with 1 post having more than 100k backlinks, so I wondered if they counted only the 1st tier or 2+ tiers as well.

Ahref does not show links from web2.0 ( wordpress etc)
majestic show that.
Majestic has far better indexing system than ahrefs. But report if ahref is good compared to majestic.

I thought ahrefs was better than majestic as majestic rarely updates...

ahref crawls about 50 - 75% of all links, but does a better job then any other software.

I use ahref for all of my site. Have a premium a/c. Very useful

majestic shows more backlinks and referring domains for my site than a hrefs
i dont have any account on a hrefs and have free account on majestic

What about 301 redirects with backlinks, will it still show as 1 backlink?

Not even close. I use these tools daily. They account for less than 10% of all tier 1 links on a good day. Often times below 1-2% of total tier 1 links.

Ahref sucks lately, majesticseo does a better job finding links.
