ahrefs.com subscription any useful?

This is like you've bought a rocket and asking how to use it

Pretty neat and IMO accurate tool.

But have not used such tools ever in my life. So just asking what is the correct way to get most out of it? Should I create multiple websites which focus on certain keywords? And I'm sure currently i'm not very good in keyword research.

I like it because with even the basic paid subscription, you get all the features so many aspects in SEO is already covered. Basically, me and my team use it for:
1. Monitor backlinks (positive and negative).
2. Analyze websites (both clients and their competitors)
3. Bulk analysis of sites
4. Content Explorer (just recently, to target influencers and potential blog posts)
There are still lots of features which I have not explored yet but I'm sure we are going to get around in using soon.
And by the way, if you only maintain 5 sites or less, it basically is all-in-one basically it monitors your sites daily including its rankings.

just looked at my rescuetime.. i spend up to 10h on ahrefs just last month..

The strength with ahrefs is with link analysis. If you aren't doing much of that then it's probably not worth continuing to pay for (but if you got it as a gift the keyword tools and other features are pretty good). Their strong point though has always been link analysis. They have that down to a science and pretty much anything you want to know about a site's link profile, about individual links themselves and about how links are influencing the ranking of a website can all be analyzed with Ahrefs. Hope that helps.
