does anybody have an ahrefs account? is the expense worth it?

It worths. You can track your backlink and your competitor. But it's not cheap. I've found a good option. With 5$/month you can use ahrefs.
Go to fiverr, search "ahrefs premium" then you will see a gig provide ahrefs in 1 month = 5$.

It's definitely worth it, but you have to use it to it's full potential. If you're just checking a couple domains here and there, try and partner up with someone and split the cost.
