Aggressive link building

The more and more I look at large-scale sites the more I think the only way to rank a site globally is through hard, aggressive link-building which breaks most of the rules people say, Yes it's different if you have a 5 page wordpress site that you want to rank in one city, but to rank services globally you can never do this without going into a few thousand RD's and the vast majority of those links will be pretty crap or crap rather than a smaller number of quality links.

Im very much at the tipping point with being very picky with a small number of RD to going to a much more aggressive style and cutting my requirements in half to get moving!

They get most of these links once they rank. Just look at the chart when they had most traffic and how many RD they had at that time.
